Won a bridal show drawing???

Ms.G, on January 17, 2017 at 10:52 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

So we went to a bridal show last week and this morning I received a call saying we won a drawing. The prizes included 2 rings from JVL, a 3 day 2 night honeymoon in 3 out if country locations or a few in USA locations, a membership for some coupon company, and 2 engraved champagne flutes. Now heres tbe catch, they want us to come and watch a cooking demonstration for cookware. The girl said there was no obligation to buy, and the prizes are mine to take at the end of the demo even if I decide not to purchase. Anyone else have experience with this? Is it to goo to be true? I googled and have gotten mixed reviews with some saying scam and others saying they did it and got their rings?

It's not a scam. It's bait to get you to listen to their really talented salespeople. Haha. But the gifts are real. (I agree the rings probably aren't worth as much as they say--I didn't like the website.)

We went. We knew exactly what it was. We thought-two hours of our life for free stuff? Ok, sure why not? We knew we weren't going to buy anything they were selling.

I would say take the trip. IF you are flexible on dates and can afford the airfare. It's still a free trip to a cool place. But just remember that two hours will SUCK.

Or so I have heard. The one we went to didn't have enough turn out. It was the last one of the day and the guy didn't want to do it, so we got all the free stuff and were only there for 10 minutes. It was awesome.

I think we need to examine the definition of scam. They are upfront about every few you will be responsible for and if you don't want to buy anything you don't have to

I got the same thing last year and it's legit. I have thebgidt card Goethe rings and the packet to go on the trip. All you have to do is listen. You don't have to buy.

    Me n fh went.

We enjoyed it but didn't buy anything. We got the rings gift card and other little stuff they gave us. The sales person didn't shove a sale, he gave us options and we could take it or leave it and we left it. It wouldn't hurt to go to see what its about but that's only if you want to.

We did it. Haven't cashed in the stuff yet. Don't buy the stuff! They really try to sell you on the products with payments and what not. My FH and I had fun.. we had a whole elaborate story line coming out of it over a few drinks!

We "won" the same thing, and many other similiar offers after attending a bridal show. My experience with attending their presentation is the high pressure sale and the free gifts are pretty inexpensive items. They also did not want to do the presentation without my FH (who works different hours - so hard to schedule and has no willpower against these folks and he will admit it). We did go to one knowing the expectations and I got him out of there without the $4000 cookware. The person kept calling afterwards though. Luckily the iPhone has the block feature. It isn't worth it to go to anymore.

My FMIL and I went because FH wasn't around. We got the champagne flutes, some gift cards for prints from a site like Shutterfly, the ring gift card and our vacation and didn't buy but felt very pressured to.

I would say go if you want the stuff and have the two hours to spend. But be wary of what they're selling and make sure to check reviews online before you buy regardless of how good the demonstration is.

Is the company in question International Hostess? If so, there's another thread on here about the very same thing.

In a word, don't go. It's the cookware equivalent of being tricked into a free tropical vacation, only to be forced to endure hours of high-pressure shills to buy into a timeshare. In fact, the "free" vacation that International Hostess claims to comp requires a sizable deposit.

    Run.

I attended a Bridal Show back in November and I'm still getting calls to go to their cooking demonstrations! I would go just to get the freebies but I am very gullible and would probably end up buying their products. But if you have will power, I say go for it!

I did it and it was okay. The pans were actually very cool but super crazy expensive. We went to get the stuff. They guy that did our's definitely turned a little mean when you said you couldn't buy but we just went for the vacation thing.

We went and actually bought the pots. We freaking love them. They really are awesome, if definitely very pricey. But if you use them properly like they show you on the DVD they send with them, you'll never have overcooked chicken again.

But as for the gifts, the flutes are awesome, you pay $19.95 for shipping and they are great quality. The coupon site sucks ass, totally NOT worth it. We didn't end up using the JVL ring cert, just didn't like their selection. And as for the trip, we gifted that to my FH's parents to use when they want and we'll cover the deposit and taxes (178 I believe)

I did something like this when I was planning my first wedding, 10 years ago. Some "gifts" were only available if you bought the cookware. We did not. But we did get the 3 day vacation thing. We still get calls today telling us we have a package waiting and for only $xxx we can reinstate it and take our vacation. Turned out to be more of a hassle than it was worth.
