Won a prize from National Registry Direct?

FutureMrsTurcios, on April 29, 2016 at 1:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 62

I received a call from National Registry that stated that FH and I won a choice of one gift package after attending a bridal expo recently. But we both have to attend one of their Bridal Registry event. Packages choices: Wedding bands (value $800) All inclusive vacation to Mexico, DR, or Bahamas, (3d/2nd) All exclusive vacation within the US from 20 locations (for 3d/2n) I'm trying to avoid a scam or wasting my time, its a 90 minutes demostration of products showcase at a local hotel. Anyone been to this? What was your experience?

Maybe its a timeshare presentation? the prizes are legit but there's always something they want you to sign up for lol

They actually stated they are not affiliated with any timeshare.that the prices are given just for giving them a chance to advertise our bridal registry products.

If they don't sell you a timeshare, they are probably going to forcefully try to sell you ridiculous expensive pots and pans for 5 hours or something. And the vacation is probably something like... You have to book EXACTLY 'x' many days in advance, at this EXACT time, on a full moon, leaving Tuesday night, returning Wednesday morning... blah blah blah.

If you are strong willed, maybe try to sit through it for the bands, but I probably wouldn't. These sorts of things are usually VERY high pressure from my understanding and what I have heard.

I did a quick search and you and the older WW threads say "All exclusive." Is that a typo or are you really saying exclusive vs. inclusive?

Read this thread, it might help a bit:

Thank you for pointing that out, it's actually all inclusive. It was a typo on my end

I won a prize and was told I could come and get my high-quality cookware at a presentation where we would be served dinner. Thanks, but no thanks.

They will be trying to sell you stuff, but if you sit through it, you'll get the prize.

I still feel guilty about dragging my FH to one of these lol. I got a text after attending a bridal show. We still got a voucher for free hotel stay for a few days but was it worth 3 hours of our time? Not really. In my defense they marketed it like a "cooking show" so I was excited to learn new recipes and was definitely disappointed. The "chef" was just a sales rep.

Oh and like others have said it'll only be valid certain dates and there are restrictions.

Scam. Like PP said even if you do "win" something it will be very specific for which area to travel during a certain month etc

Reminds me of the time FH and I were in Vegas and we (actually I) got suckered into sitting through a timeshare presentation for free show tickets. I was focused on the free tickets part and thought "why not?". The properties were great, it was just SO high pressured. There was no way I was going to purchase something and in the end I had to say "no" to 2-3 different people before they would let us go with our tickets. At one point one of the salespeople asked if FH was pressuring me to NOT make a purchase. Like I was in some sort of controlling, abusive relationship.

By the way, the show we got the free tickets for was only ok...not worth it.

I "won" the same one. I'm assuming it's a scam.

I also "won" it, and it was the cooking demo. I turned it down.

I did! We "won" all 3! I wasn't sure what I got myself into but I went. It was a 90 minutes cooking show presentation. The women was selling Pots, Pans and Knifes. The stuff was awesome, of course very expensive. I also look forward to opening these kind of gifts at the Bridal Shower. I was a little upset there was no way to make a register for the item. So, I didn't buy anything but we left with all three gifts in our hand!
