Yeah.... they're trolling for customers. Unless you want to be pressured into buying MK, pass.

Mary Kay are all independent sellers. I had a really good Mary Kay lady. It's not really a scam. She IS hoping you'll buy some product from her, but they do offer free make overs as well. Even department stores do the same thing. I actually like their products anyway (better priced than the Lacombes and Cliniques).

I used to sell Stella & Dot. Some sellers are super pushy and some honestly want to help you. That's all I can say. If you aren't interested and people keep calling or e-mailing you the best thing you can do is be polite but clear that you aren't interested. When I used to call people sometimes people would say to call back later, and I would - but they never bought anything. It would have saved my time and theirs if they just told me they weren't interested. Not sure why it's hard for some people to give a polite, "no thanks!".

Adding: I probably won't use it. I accidentally answered the phone, I usually never answer numbers I don't know. If you're okay with them trying to sell then go for it.

Yes it is a sales tactic. I don't know if I would call it a "scam" but I do think everyone "wins" one. I think I "won" about four different times lol.

They go to your house (mine offered us to go to her house since I was in the middle of moving). They don't do the "make over" themselves. They pass the product out & you and your girls are instructed on how to apply everything. Afterwards, all the girls are individually asked about purchasing Mary Kay products.

Not the kind of make over we were expecting.

Worse than being told I won a makeup party, I was told it was a "pampering" party. We went to the Mary Kay representative's "store front" where as Ruth said, product was given out and we were told how to apply the products. Unless you like Mary Kay and were planning on buying product anyway, I wouldn't bother calling them back.

They're trying to make you throw a party. It's not necessarily a SCAM, but they are absolutely going to push and push and push. I'd advise you not to respond unless you want to throw a Mary Kay party.

It's not exactly a scam, but it's an invite to have a party. I've been using MK products for years, and they're really good, but it's not a 'makeover' in the sense that you think.

I received emails that I won a makeover also after attending a show. Not a scam, they just want an opportunity to sell you the product. I love their eye cream.

My sister promised a friend she would go to this thing for her Mary Kay night since she needs to invite x amount of people each month. My sister couldn't go so I went instead. She told me it was a free facial at the salon. I said okay. I went with my grandma. It was in a class room. We put on different kinds of makeup and lotions on our face and that was it. Not what I consider a facial. And I had to do it myself. It took over 2 hours and this was on a week night and I hadn't eaten yet since I thought it would be quick :/

Just say no. Just. Say. No.

It's not a scam, just another pyramid scheme. Probably a few more will call as well.

MK products are good and all but the parties are awfullllllll.

Don't do it. I was duped by this crazy MK lady at a bridal show after I won a $100 gift card. I was swindled into attending a "make over party" that ended up just being me, my mom, and 4 MK sellers. It was a sales pitch and they were really pushy about it. For months afterwards the one girl kept on sending me text messages constantly and it was eating my minutes. I actually had to threaten her on the phone. She still sends endless e-mails and shit in the mail like catalogs.

I have had positive interactions with MK sellers before, but yea - this is totally part of a sales pitch.

I actually had a MK lady do my make-up. Maybe it depends on the person? It wasn't a party though, we were doing a make-up trial for the wedding!

@LadyMonk, MK's big idea is teaching women how to apply their own makeup so they can do it themselves when the receive the product the sellers are hoping they will order. These are the "free facials" which aren't facials at all. Some MK ladies will do makeup for a fee for events. They use the MK product but they are doing it outside of their MK business as a sales consultant. (I sold MK in college)
