Wood Branding Ceremony?

MrsD, on May 22, 2018 at 4:14 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12

Any other brides doing or have done wood branding ceremonies? How did it go? We are thinking of branding a piece of stained wood, and having our guests sign it as our guest book. I plan on ordering our brand through Etsy, then hopefully registering it (or something close) with the state after. Our venue doesn't allow wood burning fire pits, only propane. Will that get the brand hot enough?

Following because I have never heard of anyone doing this before.

A propane based torch or other heating element should definitely make the brand hot enough. It might even do it faster because the temperature will be more even and consistent unlike wood fires.

Good! I'm glad to hear about the propane fire pit working. I read some stuff online about heating it for an hour prior to the ceremony, so we are going to do that anyway. I've seen it online but haven't been to a wedding who has done it! We hope to register the brand with the state, and use it on our own livestock one day. Smiley smile

We plan on doing a wood branding ceremony as well. I think it's such a unique idea! Propane would definitely get it hot enough, especially if you can heat it prior to the ceremony as mentioned above. Our venue said we could bring in propane with a torch type system and that would be fine. They would have an employee there heat it for us and then we would "reheat it" for the "show" aspect of it. I know it's still a ways out, but post pictures if you're still on here after the wedding! Smiley smile

Same to you! I'm excited and hope it goes well! I've googled Wood Burning Ceremony scripts too, to give our officiant. Then I'm assuming the MOH and Best Man will have to hold back my dress.

As a large animal science grad, this is an awesome idea that I've never heard of. Something to mention to FH and see what he thinks!

I love this idea and have completely considered doing this also. My partner and I met on a large cattle operation where we worked together. Are you able to register a brand prior to the wedding to ensure it matches what you would use?

I think we are going to do this! We were worried about the heating aspect being too loud, so we are actually branding it beforehand and have it covered up and then we will just re-brand the area. This will also help with making sure that it is exactly in the spot we want and all that as well. I am so excited!

Yay! We are going to do it for sure. Our venue allows us to use a propane fire pit to heat up the brand, so we will just start heating it up about an hour before the ceremony. The only dilemma would be if it rains, then we'd have to do it later in the night during the reception when the rain stopped (since they won't let us do the branding inside). I found a couple shops on Etsy that will make branding irons customized too. We are going to have our guests sign the wood prior to us branding it on the outside, then brand the center!

We talked about it, but we don't own a ranch/farm yet and don't have any livestock (besides chickens) so I think it's too early. I think we will just order a brand with our initials, then in the future whatever we decide our brand will be to register, it will be as close as possible!
