Wooden crates for decorations? Suggestions on were to get them free?

Private User, on March 5, 2015 at 7:42 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

I want to incorporate crates into our favor table, we are giving bottles of wine to our guests. Anyone have suggestions on where to find crates for free?

Someone posted something last week about making them with paint sticks and staining them

I know Walmart has them, but they definitely aren't free. Try a craft store when they have a sale maybe?

Check with local liquor stores. Wine is often delivered in wooden crates. They may have some they'd give you (and put aside for you as the deliveries come in over the months). Also, try the grocery stores. Some produce comes packed in crates. Those would be my two "free" guesses.

I know in Toronto I saw a place that rents them out at $7 each. Even flea markets were charging $30 upwards to buy – crazy. We wanted them too and our florist said they knew someone and could rent them for us, so it's perhaps worth asking your vendors who might have connections. Alternatively we just bought tons of old books from the thrift shop to stack in case we don't manage to find the crates. Still gives that old look we wanted.

If you aren't able to do the free option, I would definitely try thrift stores, and garage sales, and such next. Its not free, but at least its cheap!

My liquor store charges for the wooden ones, like 5 bucks each.

Maybe ask a clerk at a grocery store if they have any out back that they're just going to throw away. Another place to check might be a plant nursery or a lumber yard etc.

Just don't say the word "wedding" and I bet you'll be good Smiley smile
