Wooden Numbers - How to Paint

Lindsay, on June 14, 2013 at 1:38 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

For those of you that painted wooden numbers for your wedding date, whether it was for your STDs or for decor for the wedding, did you spray paint them or did you actually paint them with a paint brush? We want to do the numbers too but aren't sure which method to use. Also, for those of you that used them for your STDs, did you drill a hole in them for the string?

I got my initials made out of paper mache, but I know painting wood pretty well.

Make sure you use a primer, or a spray paint that has a primer built in. It's amazing how much wood will soak in the color of the paint without a primer. With numbers and initials, it may be easier to spray paint them. Using a brush could leave all kinds of drips if you aren't careful.

You easily could drill a hole, but if your letters/numbers already have a natural loop at the top (Like an O,P,R,B,3,4,8 etc), you could just loop the string or ribbon through that instead. Either way would work just fine Smiley smile

Look up on pinterest! There's ideas on how to do stencils with just tracing with pencil. I think if you go to hobby lobby and get the wooden numbers/letters, and paint those it would look great!

I used spray paint for my wood table numbers. I tried to paint them initially with a brush, but it was too time consuming and you could see the brush strokes.

Mrs. M - brush strokes was what I was concerned about. Thanks for the clarification. I'm going to spray paint them Smiley smile
