Wording for registry

Rachel, on July 14, 2012 at 9:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

So on my web site I wrote this at the top of the "Regestry" page

"Please do not feel like you have to give us a gift. Or that it must be something off our registry. Feel free to be creative if you wish. While gifts of course will be apreciated, please know that your well wishes and/or presence are present enough for us!"

Am, I being overly explanitory or is this a good thing to say? I dont want people to think we are fishing for gifts and cash be cause we are planing on doing a few regestries and a honey fund site, but we want to have the best oportunity or getting what we want from people who want to give us gifts, with out offending anyone.

Whatever you write… make sure you spell Registry correctly~ You got it right in the headline.

I wouldn't write any of it though. I left mine blank and just had the link buttons set up.

IMO i think "while gifts of course will be appreciated, please know that your well wishes and/or presence are enough for us!" would be great....but the double "presence ... & present" just was too much "presen.." for me reading it was like wait whaaa lol love that your putting that btw Smiley smile

Don't feel obliged to give a gift,

But your dancing shoes are required

Stores we are registered at, if you're interested.

Thanks Kimberly M edited that right away. I am waiting for dinner and when I'm hungry my dyslexia really kicks in and my spelling goes out the window

Marzena B. thanks, the "presence" "present" pun was FH's idea, I wasn't overly happy with it, but I thought I'd give it a go seeing as he so rarely gives imput on this stuff. Back to the drawing board

I agree, don't write anything. Everyone knows a present is not a requirement. If they clicked on the registry link from your website, that means they are interested. If they aren't interested, they can choose not to click that link.

    We had:

Just being there to share in the beginning of our new life is gift enough for us, but if you feel so inclined to purchase a gift, we have registered with [stores].

    Our site says:

"Should you wish to help us celebrate with a gift we have created registries at..."

I took that line from another brides site and I think it's a short and sweet way of saying what you are trying to say.

I feel weird (greedy?) listing my registries in the first place, so I chose to say nothing. In my opinion, anything said could be construed as requesting a gift (though I admit I'm weird!). I'm also not a fan of cute-sy poems. If they want to get me a gift, they can view my registry tab, which is listed last on my website.
