Wording of wedding menu

Dizzy, on September 29, 2021 at 2:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 5

Back into planning our wedding after more days of frustration! lol. T-24

I'm making some signs for our food and drink and I'm second guessing myself, trying not to be a snob but also explain a little about it.

We made the wines and I wanted to put a few tasting notes (just region the grapes are from and 3-4 flavors they call up, like which fruit or leather or spice etc). Too stuffy, or appreciated?

Also we are having a lot of foods that the meat 'n' potatoes type people in our families aren't going to be familiar with. These are foods that my friend circle is pretty familiar with and things that my fiance and I LOVE and/or are specialties of mine. I tried to pick things that are less out there for the menu, nothing is totally extreme. IDK if I should put the real name of the foods or just skip it entirely.

Examples :"Muhammara (red pepper and walnuts dip" vs Red pepper and walnuts dip"

"Prebanac - Balkan baked beans with paprika" vs "Balkan baked beans with paprika"

You get the idea.

Any suggestions?

Using the real name of the dish is definitely a nod towards a higher end event, that's what I would do!

As for wine, I think that depends on your crowd. If they are into wines and actually care about the different types then it would totally work to add tasting notes. Most of my friends/family wouldn't really care so in my circle I wouldn't add that. But yours could be different

I think a few people will appreciate it and a bunch won't.

What I was thinking for wine:

    "Nameofwine"

    2020 Riesling, Yakima Valley, Washington

    Peach, apricot, honeysuckle

    As an example.

Keep the food labels simple and skip the formal names.

Agree with Dizzy on the wine descriptions. Most you see are either “white” or “red” which tells you nothing while beer and liquor are given actual names

I would use the real names of the dishes. As a guest, of I really liked a certain dish, I would want to know the name of it so that I can maybe find it in the future. If you're exposing guests to new cultural cuisine, I think it's also nice to learn the actual name of the dish as well.

I think the wine descriptions may be a nice touch as well. It may also be fun to pair them and have something like "xx wine from y region. Notes of a, b, c. Pairs great with the Muhammara!"
