So I am having a farm wedding and I am super in love with my venue however the temperatures in the fall are starting to worry me. We are in New England which can be unpredictable.

Our ceremony will be outside mid-afternoon with cocktail hour in a barn with an enclosed tent going off the back. I am starting to think about tent heaters but I am concerned because the bathrooms are about 50 feet from the tent and you have to go outside to get to them. I was also thinking about doing shalls for the women as favors.

Has anyone had a full outdoor wedding in the fall and what did you plan for? What are you planning for? I want to make sure the guests are comfortable!

Wow, date twin and we are getting married in Maine and also having a barn reception Smiley smile TBH you never know because it's New England. This past October 7th was gorgeous all day though but it totally depends. Where are you getting married?

I wouldn't do this, as a guest I would hate to be cold all night. If you are head over heals in love with the venue Maybe move your date up to warmer months

Hi! I am getting married 10/7/17 outdoors in the white mountains of New Hampshire. I plan on moving the ceremony inside only if it's below 60 or feels below 60 with a windchill. 60 and up is still summer for New Englanders Smiley winking

That being said I have a backup ceremony space and a heated tent (the type that forces hot air in with blowers, not standups) with sides.

You absolutely need a backup plan and if you don't have one or the tents not going to be well insulated by heaters (lots are!!), you need to move your date or choose a new venue - no matter how amazing it is (and Im sure it is) you will NOT enjoy yourself if it's clear your guests are suffering.

My wedding was outdoors in September, but in Oklahoma. I ended up tenting both ac and heater units, to have plans for each side of potential weather. We needed the heaters once the sun set, but during the day for set up, it was so freaking hot inside the tent. Just something to think of. I'd definitely plan on having sides and lots of heaters, because barns don't insulate at all.

I wouldn't do this. I live in the northeast and it's just too unpredictable - if it's early September then I think you're ok but October and November are too risky. I just went to a wedding outside in October in 63 degree weather and everyone was in jackets the whole time and by 5pm I left because I didn't want to be cold anymore and the sun was setting and I was getting colder

I want to do a fall wedding but I know in Washington the weather will not permit an outdoor venue so I'm sticking with either finding an indoor ceremony/reception venue or I'm putting it off until spring/summer. I don't want to make my guests uncomfortable in any way.

Have heaters (the kind that blow heat into the tent, rather than the stand-up heaters), and have more than you think you'll need (better to be safe than sorry)! My wedding was October 10, 2015, in our backyard. We had one heater and we had blankets for guests and we had a fire pit, but I wish we got an extra heater. The night got pretty chilly. Alcohol kept people relatively warm ;-) but we should have had another heater; that's my one regret.

ETA: Especially being in New England, plan for lots of heaters or moving it inside!

I went to a wedding in Chicago on that exact date this year. The ceremony (only) was outside, and it was freezing and windy, i absolutely cannot imagine that being in New England would be any warmer, and especially not a full on outdoor wedding.

I would definitely try to find a different date, or a different venue.
