Worst excuses for not attending wedding?

Throughout the planning process we have gotten a few crazy excuses for why guests wouldn't be able to attend our wedding! What are some guest excuses that you had when you were planning your wedding?

I know, right? I wanted to send them a bill for their meals... but I didn’t.

One of my husband's groomsmen called at 3pm the day of our wedding to inform us that he forgot to request off work.

For my first wedding I had a (now former) friend drop out of the wedding party two weeks before because she said she was moving. Have not spoken to her since 1994, don't care to. A cousin living in another state said he did not feel like flying. No problem, I won't invite you to my second wedding, then! (If I had a crystal ball, lol!) Problem solved!

Second wedding: A nephew of hubby never rsvp'd, never said a word, has never acknowledged me as an aunt. Lives 5 minutes from venue. No worries - life is all about him. Don't want to see your uncle be a first time groom at age 52? No worries, I think we are busy on your wedding day, lol. Another guest did not come because her daughter boyfriend broke up with her. Not sure why she needed to stay home for that, but she did.

Interesting my FH's nephew is not coming to our wedding in July because "there won't be any kids there" ~ I have a granddaughter about a year older than this kid! I personally think it has more to do with the fact that FH's teen daughter & young adult son are refusing to attend. Mind you I have know all of them since they were in either diapers or pre-school (and never treated them poorly). FH has flat out said "wait till nephew is getting married"!

Family drama! I guess it's a valid reason to elope!

My MOH is in the exact same situation (due to give birth about two weeks before the wedding), save she isn't coming. I'm bummed, but I totally understand.

My MOH is due six days before our wedding and lives in a different state. Was (and still am) really sad she won't be there. She was going to be my only bridesmaid, so now I'm maid-less!

I'm sorry Smiley sad It is disappointing. In a way though, at least you have a definite answer and aren't paying for her meal. In our case, realistically she is unlikely to show, but because she's insistent she's going to be there and can't possibly know by the time the final numbers are due, we're likely to have to pay for their plates. But that's okay, spread out across all of our guests it's hardly the thing that will break the bank, you know?

Not my wedding, but my sister's wedding. A friend of hers declined because she had to look after her neighbors dogs. This friend is well known for being afraid of dogs lol.

Agreed, not being able to come bc of your dogs is similar to not being able to come because you can’t find someone to watch your kids IMO. Dogs = fur children

We had one couple decline because they're "unable to plan so far in advance". To be honest I wasn't really sad that they declined - they're friends of FHs mother and I don't know them really well, and FMIL kind of guilted us into inviting them while we were discussing not inviting everyone out of his huge family. So it turned out fine. And my boss is still on the fence because his wife will be at a conference that weekend and he'd have to come alone... But I guess I can sort of understand this one, since he doesn't know that many other guests.

I can’t come because I couldn’t find anyone to go with. They live 4 hours away from the wedding and we even offered to pick them up.
