Worst possible timing

Yam, on August 29, 2019 at 3:10 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 44
An injury at work has resulted in a scratched eyeball and a big ol’ black eye. The nurse I spoke to gave me antibiotic gel to put on my eye but she said it’s about to get really ugly. It’s already ugly. 😰 I’m still meeting with vendors this month and my wedding is soon. Can a makeup artist completely cover a black eye? What do I even do about the eye itself? I’ve never had a black eye before, great timing.
Any tips would be very helpful! ❤️

I think that almost a month is plenty of time for
it to heal. I would reach out to your MUA now just as a heads up, but it should be okay. I’m honestly not sure what, if anything, you can do about the actual eyeball.

I’ve had double black eyes before from a broken nose and they went away in about a week and a half so I think you should be fine in a month! But if for some reason you aren’t a makeup artist will definitely be able to cover it. I’m so sorry this happened and I hope you feel better soon!

I hope you are okay! Did the nurse say how long it would take to heal or do you need to go see the doctor for that part? Are you allowed to put ice or anything like that near the eye? I know blood circulation around the eye is going to be the main concern so maybe ask to see if you can massage the area (if it doesn't hurt too much for that). I think the makeup artist will do a great job of hiding it because you've got a little time before the wedding so hopefully it'll be healed enough for makeup! Maybe sending a picture to the makeup artist to prepare just in case? It's going to be okay!! I'm glad that you weren't really badly injured though!

I would give yourself 2 weeks before getting worried about what it will look like, the body can heal quickly. I'd ask your doctor if icing everyday, using heat, facial massage, etc. would help with healing so you are doing all the right things!

Luckily you have a month to go. So hopefully your eye will heal and not be as noticeable. But a MUA can definitely camouflage it with color correcting techniques.

That’s good to hear! The nurse at the clinic said the swelling should go down in about two weeks but the eyeball itself she didn’t have a timeline for, she just gave me this gel to put in my eyelid and “roll it around” my eyeball to keep infection at bay because it keeps getting crusty.

I’m fine no worries. I got x rays taken and such. The nurse said about two weeks for the swelling but nothing about the eyeball itself, she said I need a follow up appointment with my doctor. I can do ice, no massage or heat. I’m mainly worried about the eyeball because right now it’s forming nasty crust and I’m not sure if there’s drops to hide redness or what. I’ll send a pic to my stylist to see what she suggests. I went to the ER at FH’s insistence because I couldn’t open my eye, just seems like rough timing when we’re having final meetings with vendors and such.

Good idea! I have to have a follow up appointment in 3 days, I’ll ses if he has any ideas. I don’t want a crusty gross eyeball in photos, plus a cut in my eyebrow. Not a cute look.

Do you think traditional makeup would work better for that? I was going to go with airbrush but hey whatever covers it

As we know, when bruises heal they change colors during that process. So depending on what color your bruising is on your wedding day, your MUA will use the right color correcting techniques to camouflage it (to neutralize the bruise coloring first) and then she’ll apply your makeup. If she doesn’t color correct it first, then the MUA might try to put layers of makeup instead which can look heavy in the eye area. It’s no different than fixing typical dark under eye circles.

But, of course, this all depends on whether you still have bruising. It might be completely healed.

After it’s color corrected you can use whatever make up you prefer… Cream, liquid, airbrush

Oh ok that makes more sense! Sorry I don’t actually wear makeup most days so I didn’t know color correction was separate from the makeup. I don’t even use concealer for tired eyes.
I’m a little worried because I get bruises easily and they don’t go away very fast, my skin’s like paper I swear. Unless there’s something I can do to speed up the healing process I think there will still be some color. If they can color correct it though I won’t worry about it.

That's good that the swelling will go down in about two weeks! Maybe doing ice to help the circulation? I'm not sure what you can do about the eyeball itself. Might be a good idea to ask when you go in. Hopefully, the drops will help and if not that they can prescribe something to help with it! I know its not the right time for something like this to happen but at least it won't be permanent and that you are going to look beautiful for your day no matter what!

    YAM! OH NO!

Yes you can completely cover a black eye. I know plenty of artists who have had to do make up on the groom because he got drunk and got into a fight the night before the wedding.

I would just plan on thicker makeup, or maybe a tattoo makeup base, reapply as often as possible and shower it with translucent powder so that it stays.

What kind of eye makeup were you going to do? Light and ethereal? Smokey eye?

Oh no! I wish you speedy recovery!
I worked with a girl that cut her eye w/ her nail - she was putting a shirt on & her finger slipped.
From what I remembered it took about 2 weeks for her eye to heal. Obviously I’m not sure about what happened, but I’ll be giving you good thoughts!

Thanks! I just hope my doctor has ideas for me. I’ve had bruises on my arms and legs that lasted over a month, that’s why I’m so nervous. My skin just bruises easily, hate it lol
Just stressed from the wedding so this just added to it

Ooh ouch! I got clocked in the eye with a broom handle from the side so my eyebrow got cut, my eyeball got scratched and my eye swelled shut with my eyelashes mashed against my eye. My FH insisted I go to the ER since the clinic was closed so they checked me out. Felt embarrassing going to the ER with such a dumb story. KO’d by a broom!
That’s good her cut healed so fast! Did she use antibiotics too?

I completely forgot about grooms getting black eyes! You’re right! They could easily cover an old black eye then. I was planning on a light natural look, I hate smokey eyes on me. Hopefully they can cover it with pastel colors!

If they can make a black eyed groom look normal and like he's not wearing makeup, I'm completely confident that they can cover yours and then even further distract with the colors (blush, lippy, etc)
