Worst registries?

Rebecca, on October 17, 2017 at 4:59 PM Posted in Registry 0 8

I just got married and I’ve been having a nightmare of a time with Williams-Sonoma. My Bed Bath and Beyond returns were super easy. But I’ve spent hours and hours on the phone with Williams - Sonoma trying to fix their mistakes. They have the most antiquated returns system I’ve ever seen. They don’t just look up your order at the store and give you a gift card like BB&B. They actually send your order to a processing center who then sends you a gift card with absolutely no information attached. So you are left wondering which return the card is for and if the amounts are even correct.

And twice now (on two seperate dates of return) they have actually sent the gift card to the original buyer of my gifts! So now I have to explain to my guests why I returned their gift. And no one will let me talk to a supervisor about it!

So what are your wedding registry horror stories? I have a few other friends getting married and I want to know which other companies they should avoid.

Oh no, that's so awkward! I'm sorry you're dealing with that. My registries were pretty easy to use, I used Macy's and BB&B and can't say I had any issues. I didn't have to do any BB&B returns, and Macy's were great with letting me do some exchanges when a few of the plates I was gifted had some imperfections in their manufacturing.

Amazon has been amazing. BB&B has been ok. I haven't returned anything, but my items keep getting discontinued.

I did Amazon, BB&B, and Target.

When I first posted on WW I had a HoneyFund. I learned, quickly, that it was a scam. I had to bend over backwards with their customer service to delete me. I still get emails from them despite asking to unsubscribe. It's very very annoying...

We did Crate and Barrel, BBB, and Macy's.

Loved Crate and Barrel! They were so helpful. BBB was okay, but our consultant was misleading when we went in to start ours. She led us to believe that we would have a 20% completion discount any time we wanted to use it between our wedding date and when the registry closed 2 years later. After our wedding when we went in to pick up a few things, we found out that wasn't true. It was frustrating. Macy's was just downright terrible. We had so many issues setting up our registry and our store's registry consultant was so hard to work with when we sought help with anything. Her hours were so inconvenient, so it was a chore to get her help and she wasn't the best at responding to emails. The day we went in to start our registry, she wasn't working. That wouldn't be a huge deal, if the other employees had been trained to inform us that we needed to take a print out with us that day so we would have our registry ID and would be able to access our registry later online. We had no clue we would need it, so we didn't take a print out with us (we didn't want to waste paper). We went in a second time deliberately to meet the registry consultant and ask a few questions, as well as add a few items. I think we waited half an hour at her desk before she materialized. Other employees had no idea where to look for her. She set up our scanner that day and didn't connect it to the right registry. Later on, I found that the items we added weren't actually on our registry. Another trip to the store to figure out when she'd be there so I could go back in to ask why the items we added were missing.

We only registered at Macy's because we could not agree on towels and sheets from any other store. Otherwise, I would have deleted the registry and stuck with the other two stores. I like Macy's as a store, but I'd recommend against registering there.

You know what, our BB&B consultant also told us we would have a 20% completion discount. I totally forgot about that! I was so surprised when we didn’t! We had recently moved so my husband forwarded his mail and we got the 20% off everything coupon that’s ah and did not use our 10% completion discount. Ugh! Good to know about Crate and Barrel! I will recommend them!

I do not recommend Crate & Barrel. As much as I love their store and products their wedding registry is a nightmare for the overly organized OCD bride. They do not notify you when purchases have been made off your list and there is no way of keeping track of which gifts have been mailed, if they are even going to be mailed directly to you or if the guest is choosing to keep it secret/hold on to it. I'm sitting here worried that gifts have gone missing or just being held on to by the guest to give at a later date, I genuinely hate it. I highly recommend Zola, an easy one stop shop that allows you to pick your own ship dates for all items or even change it to store credit without even shipping the item if you've had a last minute change of heart.

Don't use the Container Store!! They refuse to give you ANY information about when, where or whom bought your registry items. They don't even offer a packing slip for the guest to include their name. If you want to make sure that each of your guests receives a thank-you note, then this is NOT the place to work with.
