Worst Wedding Disaster?

Carly, on August 21, 2024 at 1:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

My friend gave me permission to share the story of her wedding here:

- Power went out 5 minutes into the reception, and never came back on. The generator caught on fire when they tried to use it so we had to temporarily evacuate.

- No music all night. The bride had to sing her favorite song acapella with tears in her eyes for the first dance. (https://vocaroo.com/18gJwVxh7bRH) Obviously no dancing after that.

- No air conditioning. A few of her elderly relatives had to leave early because it was nearly 90 degrees inside towards the end. Everyone was sweating like a pig. Our makeup looked so bad we all collectively agreed to wash it off before taking any pictures, and we're all daily makeup wearers (talking about the bridesmaids).

- The cake melted and looked atrocious. Frosting was sliding off into the table and the cake was pretty much bare by the time we got to eat it. Safe to say almost no one ate it so the cake was a huge waste. No one wanted the warm drinks, pretty much no one ate the food.

- The bride was stressed and miserable all night. Wanted to walk out on several occasions. She kept saying "I'm so sorry" over and over again as we tried in vain to reassure her.

- The speeches were rushed and half-assed as no one was "feeling it" by the time they were supposed to give them. Lots of special moments never saw the light of day.

- The Bride's heel broke out of nowhere and she nearly twisted her ankle.

That's terrible! Was it a heat wave?

Yup! The heat was awful. Without AC the whole room was ridiculously humid.

I'm thinking that a full-service electrician should be on hand (or on call) and empowered to provide alternative electricity and air conditioning to events. These two aspects of a venue are rather disruptive if not handled. Maybe it is good to ask wedding planners whether they are able to have someone on standby for such problems -- and to make sure the venues are obligated to remedies like this.
