worst wedding gifts?

Sh, on June 4, 2013 at 12:52 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

Just saw this video and thought I should share with you ladies and see what you ladies thought. What would be the worst gift someone could possibly give you on your wedding day?

Thanks for sharing! I think I would still prefer cash to some of those other things mentioned. Yea maybe it can be a little more of a pain than a check but who cares!

And as for the excursions, I paid for activities for my brother to do on the HM and they absolutely loved it but I did talk to them first. I told them I could get them something off the registry or pay for something for the HM and they chose the HM!

I know thats what I'm saying! Who would think that cash is a bad gift? Not me that's for sure!

Um, Amy, what about the mini pig with his wheels for back legs? That was the best gift ever. I gave that to you from the heart... FROM THE HEART!!

I've never heard of someone giving baby clothes as a wedding gift. Odd.

This was not a bad gift by any means, but at my friend's wedding last year, someone brought a pair of kayaks TO the wedding as a wedding gift. At some point in the night, the kayaks were dragged to the dance floor and bride and groom had a great little photoshoot with them.

    Oh, dear little Chris...

We didn't get anything BAD, really... we got a gift card to one of the smelly stores (candles, soaps, etc.) I hate smelly stores, super allergic so it made no sense and I had to go in there and use because what the hell else was I gonna do?

"We wanted you guys to get something for you, that you could enjoy..." Um, yeah, I would have enjoyed some filter refills for our water pitcher. I really would have.

DAMN you Amy and Reenski now I want to eat like a pound or two (more like 10 pounds) of bacon(which will mean breaking my diet)! After seeing that picture of Chris my heart just melted (but I still want to eat all of his relatives).

Hey, if somebody is burdened by big bills on their wedding day, I will gladly take them off their hands. I'll deal with the trouble of big bills. I mean seriously? Cash?!? A bad gift?!?!

Eww to smelly stores! I'm also super allergic to super delicious smelling, flowery, girly soaps, shampoos, perfume, etc. You name it I'm allergic to it. I would hate getting one of those gift cards too Reenski.

@Shelley, I considered selling it online, but was afraid that they'd ask "What'd you use it for?" and all that jazz. Got these sprays that are supposed to help you sleep and relax -- Sleep and Stress Relief. I like the sleep well enough.

But seriously, I don't understand why people insist on going off registry ever. In particular because I still had items we REALLY wanted on the registry after the wedding.

I don't get that either. It makes me worry that with almost a month till our wedding only 2 gifts have been purchased from our registry. (Yes, I have been taking a peek at it)

2 of our best friends re-gifted us their worst wedding gift as an engagement present. It was a really tacky, scratched up silver photo album that still had the price sticker on it. Hilarious.

We had a few people buy items us items that we not on the registry, but they worked well. We received a 3 set picture frame-great for our wedding photos, homemade dishcloths- who does not extra ones, a beautiful vase-something to hold flowers, scrapbook-for all our wedding and engagement mementos. But the vast majority stuck to the registry or gave cheques or cash.

I totally disagree with #1 on the list, cash is great!!

But I totally agree with #2 on that list! The registry is there for a reason! I just had my bridal shower and FH's mom bought us an entire set of really nice Lenox wine glasses from Macy's. Lovely right? Except we registered for different really nice Lenox wine glasses at BBB!!!! I was so irritated it was almost hard to hide!! I know it's the thought that counts, but she was actually the one that told us to create a registry in the first place b/c 'otherwise ppl will just buy you what they think you should have'. Ahh!!!

I got a special "mixer" add on to the Kitchenaid at my shower (that I didn't register for). And not the Kitchenaid... boooooo Smiley sad

@Tiffany, I mean, if that's your thing, that's your thing. But I have enough vases for the few random times H will get me flowers. I don't like having lots of breakable things (and that's before kids!) or smelly things or things I just don't like or won't use. I'm very particular, always have been, so getting me random stuff is not likely to work in your favor.

I just remembered that some family friends gave us these Yankee Candle holders and candles. I mean, I've never been a candle person, if they'd mentioned the thought to my parents, my parents could have mentioned it'll stay in the box in a closet (where it is now until an appropriate enough amount of time has passed for me to re-gift or Goodwill.)

I get the thought and all, but what's the point if it's literally going to sit in a closet doing nothing? You could have expressed the same sentiment in a card and saved yourself money.

@Jenn, that, also. You can see a person's whole registry. If the mixer hasn't been bought, why the eff get the attachments? Just pick something else from the registry. Or a gift card so you can actually get the mixer.

That's why I stayed away from china and full bathroom sets (if I couldn't get the whole set.)
