What's the worst wedding story you've heard from a friend or experienced yourself?

I have a friend who had an outdoor wedding, no rain plan, and it poured. She was also sick with the flu and got her period that morning. But she was super positive throughout it all.

I also heard of a friend who was a BM for a catholic ceremony. They were required to wear 6 inch heels and stand for the whole thing. One of the BM's passed out, and the bride threw a fit and refused to talk to her the rest of the night. Says she ruined her wedding.

This was in Montreal when I was living there. Over there, weddings tend to turn into big parties that last until 2-3 am. However, this particular wedding was on a Sunday. I assumed that it would end much earlier due to it being a work day next day. Cocktail hour was supposed to be from 6-7. Bride and groom didn't show up until 8:30. People were getting hungry since hors d'oeuvres stopped being passed at some point.

Finally they show up but start with a huge receiving line. Then the speeches started. And never seemed to end. It was about 10 pm before we got food and the speeches kept going. By 11:30 pm I got fed up and left. They were still doing speeches. No dancing yet. No cake. Everyone and their momma had a speech. All the guests looked bored to tears.

AugustBride - why don't you chill out. People are telling their own stories of why THEY think the wedding sucked. Stop taking it personally. You don't get to control people's opinions on the situation just because you have a different one.

I was at one where the food gave us food poisoning, and my fiance spent 1/2 the reception in the bathroom... awesome

I went to a wedding where the whole ceremony was a lecture from the pastor to the bride and groom about how this is a commitment (I agree, but it not the right time for a lecture is it?), then he lectured the bride about how she better obey her husband and submit to him, and how even though they are rushing into it, it's still forever (she was pregnant.) It was just odd. She is one of my best friends and I would go again but it made for a very awkward time.

"Nobody likes you" is so junior high that I feel like I have a spiral perm and braces all over again. Wow. Why can't we just make fun of bad weddings like civilized people?

I'm glad everyone gets a laugh out of my story Smiley smile I was crazy nervous so I just said the first thing that popped in my head. Don't know why that was "Merry Christmas" when it was April but hey, that's a 17 year old for ya.

Oh, I love awkward officiants! I went to a wedding where the officiant forgot where he was, the brides name, AND what year it was. By the end, I was so confused - I didn't know what year it was either.

Yeah, they were already married. And not even for a "good" reason. Just to "get it over with." Literally part of the vows were "they had no idea what challenges they'd face in the next 4 months. like the 2 dogs they got. so much changed!"

I don't really care if "GAF" and I would have had no problem with them having a party to celebrate. I was totally on board. But then it was a shit show, they were rude to all of us by not hosting properly. So it sucked. People do notice rudeness.

I was also personally offended because DURING OUR WEDDING the dude spent the whole telling everyone in earshot how weddings are stupid and a waste of money and dumb and he'd never have one and its such bullshit. And then he had his "party" where he said vows, cut a cake, first danced, expected gifts, had a photographer, DJ, etc.

    Also, I like Emily.

@ Brittany my family says Happy Christmas all the time. When handing you the car keys or passing the salt.

My cousins decided to have a double Catholic wedding with full mass. I was young and it was painfully, excrutiatingly long.

Wow some of these are so funny. I can only ad that my best friend got married about 5 years ago and only like 10 people showed up for the ceremony and then at the reception (50 showed up there) her husband drank too much that her dad shut down the bar and a fist fight broke out with the groom and his best man. someone else had a wedding at the same place and they must of had fish as their centerpieces because my kids found 5 living gold fish in the toilets, ewwww, but how could I tell them no you can't save the fish.

I don't remember it well because I was 9 haha, but I guess shit went down at my aunts wedding where I was a flower girl. My grandma, her mom, wanted to ban me from being flower girl because she didn't approve of the man my aunt was marrying, but somehow I ended up being one anyways without her knowledge... Until I walked down the aisle of my aunts church. I remember my grandma up and leaving with a huge SIGH, making a show. What I don't remember is her coming to the reception just to scream at my dad and my uncle (my aunts brothers... This was all my dad's side) for giving behind her back and then throwing her plate and making my grandpa leave.

I'm a little sad this happened when I was so young haha.

    FFIL's catholic mass wedding -

During e sermon, Priest goes into a rant about marriage being destroyed in the U.S. - mainly by the allowance of gay marriage.

Mind you, I get it's a catholic wedding, and this is what the religion believes. But FFIL has only one son, a gay one, obviously, and it was so obvious that the attack was pointed right at us, sitting very respectfully in the second row. FH wanted to leave but I just grabbed his leg as if to say "we are here for your dad"

Everybody apologized to us afterwards. So f-ING awkward.

Oh then his mentally handicapped cousin fell in the parking lot and split his head open. While waiting for the ambulance, I ran into the church to find the priest and ask for ice, etc. he started yelling at me about us still being in the parking lot. I kept trying to explain there was an injured man, and he didn't care. He finally brought me ice and said "there's a funeral here in 30 minutes, you guys better be gone"

Wow, Pezzy, what a jerk of a priest. Clearly that is not someone who should be in the clergy!

I still struggle with issues about my own wedding. The MUA was a no-show, and it completely screwed up my timeline because we had to scramble to find makeup and then apply it. We started the ceremony on time, but only because we skipped the family photos we planned on doing before the ceremony. Our wedding was on a Sunday evening, and we had a lot of older guests, so we knew there would not be a late party. I am very upset that I had to spend half my reception time taking photos that were supposed to happen BEFORE the ceremony.

There were a few minor mishaps too, but I feel like I got cheated out of time at my wedding, and that is something I can't re-do.

This next story is pretty awful and not in a funny way. My friend was getting married, and the night before during the bachelor and bachelorette parties, the MOH's boyfriend attempted to rape the bride. She was able to fend him off, but was obviously very shaken and wanted to cancel the wedding. My friend told the MOH and she didn't believe her BF would do that, so MOH and the BF left and were not in the wedding. The Groom insisted the wedding go on because they would lose all their money if they cancelled so last minute.

Whenever I lament about the issues at my own wedding, I try to remember that my friend had it a lot worse and my own issues seem minute in comparison.

OK here's another one I just remembered!

My friend attended a wedding where the reception was in a NIGHTCLUB. It looked like it was in a nightclub from the photos.

There was no assigned seating - ok not a big deal.....but they then discover there isn't even ENOUGH seating for the guests. Almost all the food was served in martini glasses - including strips of steak they did not provide any knives for. How do you eat that standing up???

The bride and groom go to cut the cake at one point and it's just a tiny cutting cake. My friend is thinking they are serving sheet cake to the guests....but nope. No one got any cake!
