Would it be offensive to my florist if i bring my own Diyed flowers?

Jayne, on July 1, 2021 at 1:03 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10
Hi! We have a really tight budget, but I have too much high expectations on reception decor. So we ended up hiring a florist for elevated arrangements which I can never manage to create. Her team is pretty well known where I live so it costs a lot of $$ as well. I was thinking of DIYing low arrangements and combining them with elevated arrangements that my florist brings on one table. Would it be a little awkward for her? Or should I explain this before the wedding day? Btw, I have been taking flower classes so don't have any issues with making them on my own.

I would check your contract, as most florists will not allow floral arrangements that are not designed by them.

I don't think the worry is offensive or not offensive, but since this is a business not a personal relationship, it's about whether this is allowed per your contract. Read your contract and then ask to make certain.

I agree with checking with your florist. I’ve never come across one who would allow this.

Check your contract; your florist may prohibit this as they don't want your DIY work to be interpreted as their own.

I agree with others you may not be allowed to do this.

Thanks for your thoughts! I just checked the contract and it never mentioned that. I will definitely tell my florist later.

Good that you're telling them! I don't know that I would add anything to an elevated arrangement below, that sort of defeats the purpose of having an elevated arrangement in my opinion. Unless you're maybe doing some basic greenery at the bottom.

With your contract not specifying, I would just give her a heads up that you have some small pieces you'll be doing to accent. I have a hard time seeing them have a problem with it, as after the flowers are left there's nothing they can do to prevent your from adjusting/altering things around them.

I would definitely speak with your floral designer as she may be wondering what you are doing with the remaining tables. Perhaps she can work with your same budget, change flower options and create both elevated and low so that the flower choice, floral quality, and vision match throughout your space. Good luck.

Ask to make sure. Because many do not allow it since it is not representative of their work and brand.

Most florist don’t allow it, but if you’re taking floral classes do it yourself. Bet it will come out better than you expect 👍🏽
