Would it be weird to do a Monday wedding?

Kaitlyn, on February 10, 2021 at 10:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

Hi! We looked at a venue tonight that is affordable and stunning. Would it be weird to do a Monday wedding though? Doing the wedding on a weekday is significantly cheaper (theirs are Monday-Wednesday weekday).

Nope it's not weird! As long as you send out STD and allow guest an ample enough time.
    Happy plannimg💐🙏

Will you have guests traveling from out of town? If so, then I’d steer clear from a Monday wedding. If all of your guests are local, then you could probably do it. As a guest, a Monday wedding is not ideal, but much easier to make it work if you only have local guests

A majority of our guests are from Jersey. We have a handful of people that may fly in from out of state

My fiance's cousin got married on a Monday. That's the only Monday wedding I've heard of though. Their cost difference was $2000 off venue price for early weekday compared to the weekend. I think if it works for you, your guest will attend.

How many people are you thinking? If you're planning on something small, I think close family would understand. If you're planning on like 100 people, I would say that's inconveniencing way too many people and you risk some people declining as they may have to take off work on Monday and Tuesday to travel. But at the end of the day, you can have your wedding any day you want!

I say go for it! These days flexibility is the name of the game. If you can find a silver lining, such as an opening at your venue of choice at a lower cost, work covid to your advantage 👍

It's not weird but will be inconvenient for many people. Make sure to send out save the dates at least 6 months before the wedding to give guests enough advance notice to schedule time off.

I guess my other question would be comparing it to a Friday wedding which is originally what we were thinking. Is it really any different?

You plan your wedding for the day that suits you and fits your budget. Typically weekday weddings can be inconvenient for guests as it requires taking a day off work for a large number of guests but providing guests ample notice will counter this.

Personally I would say yes - for many office workers, Fridays are generally the most quiet weekday in terms of workload.

We’re doing a destination wedding on a Thursday. We cleared it with our VIP guests and none of them said it would be an issue, so we moved forward with it! Most of them are making an extended weekend out of it. Monday might be a tad trickier for your average Monday-Friday work crowd in terms of having to take time off, especially for your out of towners, but it’s a “know your people” kind of thing in terms of how flexible your guests can be. I’d recommend bouncing the idea off the people you know you ABSOULUTELY want there and if any of them have issues with it, weigh that and plan accordingly! We saved over 3k doing a Thursday vs a Saturday so it’s more than worth it for us.

That's kinda what we're thinking too honestly. Monday-Wednesday vs the other packages they have could save us at least $6k.

If the majority are local then you could probably pull off a Monday wedding. It’s inconvenient for guests but if they know long ahead of time then they can plan for it. But to answer your other question—Friday weddings are much better than Monday weddings!

Can you save money by doing a Thur, Fri or early Sun night? Those days will generally be much more convenient for guests. If you want a party vibe or dancing, go for Thur or Fri if Sat is just too expensive.

We actually did a Monday night. But it was a destination wedding, only 15 guests, most were older and retired, and we checked the date with all guests before booking. So it can be done but it’s a know-your-crowd decision.

So the packages are (venue only):

Monday-Wednesday: 1 day wedding at $2,000 for the entire day.

2 day package (12pm Friday overnight to midnight Saturday) at $8,000

4 day package (12pm Thursday through Sunday morning) at $10,000.

This venue is also acts as an airbnb which is why they do the overnight options. The weekends are only for packages.

Wow, that’s a steep price difference! 😳 How many guests? Do you think they’ll be ok with a Mon-Wed option?

For all people think of Monday as being automatically inconvenient, it is a know your crowd thing. Hubby's niece is marrying here next year, and one of mine. For each of them B and G both weddings, their large parents generation is mostly 40-65, senior staff or owner of a small business, weekday time off is easy. They have many sibs, who like their friends, work weekends, retail or restaurants on one, lots of hospital doctors and nurses, or hotel, nightclub, entertainment. When they went down their lists, they were surprised to find only 5-10 Mon-Friday workers, on each list, in the generation with little vacation or holiday time, out of about 150-175 on the draft guest list. They went back to their vendor lists, to people and things they could not afford, finding Monday and Tuesday were cheaper. And their only reason for turning down a weekend initially was because every person they listened too, including the Day of C. for one couple and full wedding planner for the other that they started with pushed and pushed and pushed weekends. They began to think that the fact that their DOC and the other couples planner get paid a percentage of what the couple spend in services and vendors and venues. And a 25% lower cost M or Tues meant they were getting paid 25%less. And stopped listening to the pro advice, and looked at their actual guests' work and school schedules. ( And both coordinator and planner quit, not enough fees. They based their taking the jobs on getting premium weekend wedding rates. It was an eye opener for both couples.

As long as your guests are fine with it, go for it! It may be a little inconvenient if any guests are traveling though, it'll add extra days that they'll have to take off from work.

It’s a great option for people like myself in hospitality plus some vendors give you a discount for being on an off day
