Would it be weird to do a Monday wedding?

Hi! We looked at a venue tonight that is affordable and stunning. Would it be weird to do a Monday wedding though? Doing the wedding on a weekday is significantly cheaper (theirs are Monday-Wednesday weekday).

It’s not weird- i tried going that route & getting married on a weekday but my fiancé didn’t want to. Our date is 4/3/21- my daughter canceled her engagement so 2020 opened back up for us (thank God we didn’t go for it!). I thought we could save so much $$$ by getting married on a weekday - by almost $2500! My fiancé stopped my craziness & said no! “We like our date & we’re not changing it!” Our venue also charges extra for specialty dates like ours.

Monday weddings are fine as long as your expectations are realistic. I'd run the idea by your VIP guests to see if they're open to it. For the rest of the guests you'll have to accept that they may decline at a higher than usual rate or leave early. You can make it easier on guests by making the time of your event more convenient - for example if it is a local wedding, making it later in the evening means your guests can work a full day, change, and drive to the venue.

I have attended a weekday wedding, I believe it was a Thursday, I had to fly in for the wedding, so I was already taking the time off from work. Because I was traveling for it, it didn't bother me that it was a weekday. I will say though, the wedding did seem very short. It started around 5:30 and by 9:30 people were already leaving, even though the venue was booked until midnight. The bride ended up doing her sparkler send off at 10:15. Just something to keep in mind

It’s a good idea to talk to a few of your most important guests and see if it would work for them. It’s not “weird” but depending on your guestlist it may be super inconvenient, and it will change the vibe. If you want Dance Party vibe, you shouldn’t expect it on a Monday, as people will be looking ahead to their work day the next morning. If there are out of towners, they might not come bc of the scheduling. If you want dinner vibe and have a lot of guests without 9-5s it may work for you.

I see a lot of ‘you do you’ in the comments , and of course what ever wedding you want, you should have! It’s just important to manage your expectations. A weekday wedding WILL impact who will come (there is no “if they love you enough they’ll make it work” — thats just not how life works. There are plenty of people I love dearly but I’ve had to skip their weddings due to schedules...AND some weddings that were majorly inconvenient to me [on a work day] that I felt obligated to go to [sibling] and the experience was frustrating to me because of what a big hassle it was for me to be there, so I find it important to consider it from the guests’ perspective too). It will impact who will come and how late they will stay, so make sure you can get the wedding that you want on a weekday. Talk to your close family and friends about it— their perspective is extremely important here as the guests. I just don’t want you to be disappointed.
I see you asked if it was much different from a Friday wedding, and I think yes absolutely. A Friday wedding I’m still battling my work day (may have to leave early) but it does allow for a full party vibe for those with 9-5s not needing to worry about work the next day. Those that need to travel can make a weekend about it and have all the flexibility they need.I don’t know where in jersey you are, but anecdotally, I’m in nyc and a lot of my friends have gotten married outside of the city, in NJ or Long Island. These weddings were super feasible for me on a weekend, didn’t even have to stay over, can take the train there and back. But if they were weekday weddings, I likely wouldn’t have gone, considering an hour there on the train, wanting to leave a little early knowing I have to get up in the AM, and knowing the commute back. It just makes me start to evaluate if it’s worth the effort on my part to go. The point here is, try to really consider it from your guests’ perspective. Put yourself in their shoes determining how easy or difficult it would be for them to attend. You know your guests and their circumstances better than we do.

We are planning our wedding for a Monday! It saved us $2000 at our venue and has saved us on lodging and other vendors as well. I know it's definitely inconvenient for a lot of people, but since our wedding is a destination wedding, almost all of our guests would have to take off time even for a Saturday wedding. Also all of our VIPs were totally okay with it and are planning to make a vacation out of it anyways. My fiance and I also both work a 7 days on/ 7 days off schedule, so we were pretty flexible for dates.

We’re going to a Monday wedding in June. It’s in a fairly high cost of living area but I think most family are flying in, so we are taking the time off anyway.
There will never be a date that pleases everyone, you’ll go nuts trying to make everyone happy. Pick the date that works for you!

Not at all! A friend of mine is having a destination wedding on a Monday and is making a weekend out of it. My wedding is on a Thursday evening. And if guests want to make it a 3 day weekend in the mountains they can! I heard a few grumblings from a couple of family members, but I told them if they would like to given me an extra $5000 to have it on a weekend convenient for them I would gladly change it and I haven’t heard anything else about it. We sent out save the dates relatively early and our close friends and family knew the date super early so they all planned accordingly. As long as you give them plenty of notice, the people who it’s important to will be there.

I don't think so. We are doing our wedding on a Tuesday to keep our anniversary. Those that I really wanted to make sure could come I talked to before looking for venues. It's not the norm but we are happy with this choose, and as we are planning for a small wedding it is work well for us. The thing is you need to be happy with what you are doing. My future mother-in-law is the only one in our immediate support group that has voiced any concerns. Were the rest of our immediate support group are excited about it and support us.

    Hi!

We decided to do a Monday wedding. One reason was the cost. It was significantly cheaper to have a weekday (M-Th) wedding even compared to a Friday. We also figured that guests would have already needed to take off work for a Friday wedding, which was our original plan. Also, we thought it would be nice to enjoy the weekend with our close friends and family. The current plan is Bachelorette Friday night, bridal party spa type day on Saturday, rehearsal on Sunday, and wedding Monday. Or something similar to that. Our guest list is also smaller with only family and close friends, so we feel confident that the people invited won't mind.
