Would you do your own Makeup if you’re pretty good at it ?

So I have had makeup done by professionals and I got Mine done for a wedding in 2019 and wasn’t impressed . I wouldn’t say I’m an expert but I’m Pretty good and know how to work with my features . Has any other brides done your own makeup and was it worth it or would you have done different?

I plan on doing my own makeup as well! I love doing makeup, it’s a hobby of mine, so I’m looking forward to it. I did my own makeup for my engagement shoot with the photographer I hired for the wedding and I thought it photographed well. If that’s an option for you to do as a test run, I’d suggest that. Or possibly find a friend with a high quality camera and do a test run like that?

I didn't like my makeup when I had it done professionally. I don't know how to do my own nor do I even own any makeup

Definitely not, because I don't want to worry that something will turn out wrong. My sister had 3 pre-make-ups and she and the stylist found the perfect option, and also picked up all the necessary tools so that the makeup would not go away during the day.

Haha! I've done it a couple of times, but I'm not sure I'm good enough to do my own make-up on my wedding day!

I did my own. I have had 2 makeup trials in my lifetime, and I hated both. As it got closer to my wedding, I though "Well maybe I'll give it a 3rd chance and really look into a makeup artist that will do what I imagine" and nearly put down a deposit for a place. Then Covid happened, and I wasn't able to meet them to put down a deposit because they were closed. I ended up just never giving them a deposit (and I'm glad, because during Covid, they actually CHANGED LOCATIONS, and their location wouldn't have even been done getting ready on time, plus it was less convenient than the old location).

Anyway, I did my own, and it was fine, and I have no regrets.

Commenting again to add - This is what my sister is like, and she did her own makeup for her wedding too. Applying makeup relaxes her, and it helped her on her wedding day, not stressed her out!

Somethings happen and end up working out better that way . I feel times have changed so much as long as you feel beautiful and confident on your day that’s all that matters!

    Hi Brittney,
Just like you I also did my makeup for my engagement shoot and even my photographer thought I got it done professionally . That’s a good idea to photograph with a good camera to test it out

I'm getting married in June in FL, and I live in PA and I'm 99% sure I'm going to do my own. I enjoy doing makeup and feel very comfortable doing it. I won't be able to have a trial done and that really stresses me out.......I feel like I'm more likely to do it my own be happy with it as opposes to having someone who's never met me do it, and I'm very particular. I will probably splurge on new makeup beforehand and I will definitely have practiced my final look (at least twice!) before I go. If covid ever allows I'd like to go to ulta or something to have it done to maybe learn a few new tips, if not I've always done great with youtube. If you're comfortable, go for it.......I have some friends that admittedly barely know how to apply makeup on a regualr basis, so unless you are that type of person rock on!

I am a professional and am doing my own makeup 😄 professionals do know a lot more about what type of makeup to use for pictures and what steps to take so your makeup can last all day. Some makeup isn’t great for photography and some primers and foundations don’t work well together. But if you are set on doing your own I would start experimenting with different products. Personally I’m aware than it may be stressful but I really am excited to do my own and don’t trust anyone else with it 🥰

I think the benefit to doing it yourself is that you know how you like to bring out your favorite features (e.g., the perfect eyeliner thickness, where to place false eyelashes). However, knowing myself I will be too nervous and my hands would be too unsteady on the big day. I wouldn’t want to make a mistake in panic and feel I had to start all over—then be 1 hr behind on getting ready! Also, I would probably overspend on experimental foundations and eye shadows beforehand. I do my own makeup on the daily basis, but I’m looking forward to finding a professional who will take away the potential stress haha!

I’m pretty decent at my makeup but I got mine professional done and glad I did. Especially for photos. She just made it heavier than I would and a bit darker which I liked

Hi there! Professional makeup artist and licensed Esthetician here. I’ll be doing my own makeup for my wedding because I am a professional but I would never do this if I was not. This is especially important if you are taking wedding photos, we use HD Professional makeup, photography makeup is completely different that regular makeup application. For photos, makeup must look a certain way if not it will literally disappear in the photos. Wedding makeup trials are also very helpful, look at the artists work on their page and make sure you like the style of makeup. If you do your makeup with a licensed professional and not just any makeup artist you will be assured to have a stress free and flawless application.

I’m personally doing my own makeup. I’ve had mine done professionally and all they do is cake it on and it looks terrible.

Completely agree. This is best left to the pros. More are actually good than not.

As a planner I always tell my brides let a professional do it. Between nerves and constant distractions it may be the only time where you can actually take a full breath. Plus it will help relax you!

For my wedding I’m definitely using an artist!

I say go for it if that's what you want to do! I definitely recommend researching bridal makeup as it is applied differently than regular makeup, but with practice there's no reason you couldn't do your own makeup!
