Would you donate to this GoFundMe wedding?

KM, on June 30, 2015 at 11:18 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 51

I know 99.9% of the time, GoFundMe weddings are laughable, but what about this? Still not a good reason?

It's a horrible story but I would rather my money go to people without food, water, or shelter.

Really sad story and really, really sweet of him. I probably would if I knew them.

While it's a really sad story and sweet, no, I wouldn't. I get that a wedding is super important and a huge day, but it's not as important as food or water.

I admit majority of my donations go to help homeless rescue dogs so I probably won't donate to this unless I knew them.

If it was someone that I know, I wouldn't hesitate. A stranger? Definitely not. Like m said, I'd rather donate money to people that actually NEED items to survive at the moment.

I would definitely not. I only donate to mental health, humane society/environmental, and poverty/homeless/social justice.

Really sweet of him to want to do this, but they already had their wedding and for the same logic why it's tacky in the first place, a wedding isn't an entitlement.

I agree that I would for someone I know but not for a stranger.

Nope. It's the same thing as donating to the first wedding. Their story is sad though, my heart goes out to them.

If I knew them, I totally would. Who knows - it might help with her healing. Yes, they had their wedding, but she suffered a brain injury that made her not remember it.

I just did donate, and I could not hate GoFundMe pages more. Could you imagine having the most amazing day of your life and your partner has lost all memories of it? Or you have lost all memories of it. She's going to feel like a huge part of her was stolen for the rest of her life. I found it touching, and would hope my husband would do the same for me... without the GoFundMe page obviously.

Nope. Big fancy weddings are luxuries, not necessities.

Anyone think that GoFundMe's start way too quickly. Teen dies tragically and 2 hours later there's a GoFundMe. Or am I being ridiculous?

Probably not. Not that i don't sympathize, but like Snarky said, weddings are a luxury, not a necessity.

I would recommend they plan again and start from scratch if they wanted the wedding they had. I suspect they would get a lot of help from those they know and don't know, but not from me.

I'm all for having another "wedding" since the wife can't remember the first. Get married again, say your vows (although I feel like it may be a tad awkward for guests who just went to their wedding a year ago).. But why can't he just put it off a year and pay for it themselves? They are only trying to get $5000... they really can't save that in a year or 2 years? Maybe then a wedding shouldn't be priority #1. All I'm saying is...why not pay for it themselves?
