Would You Have Cake Centerpieces?

emcknight1517, on June 20, 2018 at 3:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

I was browsing old forums and came across the idea to have individual cakes as centerpieces. I personally like the concept, but I imagine it can be expensive and tricky to get right.

Would you do this at your wedding? What flavors would you pick for each cake?

That actually sounds like a cool idea!! I can see where it’d be difficult trying to get cakes people like at the tables and watching for allergies, but that’s an awesome idea!! I think guests would think that is pretty cool!

As a bakery owner yes I would totally do this! But...I could see this getting super messy, sort of like having family style serving. But...if I could do it I would alternate tables with some sort of chocolate like a salted caramel & a vanilla with filling. I would keep them semi naked because I love naked cakes. If I was having my wedding outside or in a barn (which I am) this would be a no go due to bugs and temperature.

This is cute and unique! I like the first picture w butter creme frosting and yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling! I need to find those numbering for my tables! This looks fun I would love to be a guest at the wedding like this, just dive into the cake, people love second servings of cake!

Idk if I would do it personally because of the price aspect..I guess it depends on how many tables tho & you could have simple not over the top cakes. I don’t really like fillings in all that extra stuff lol I’d probably go strawberry, white, yellow, lemon etc if it were mine. Maybe you could put different desserts at the tables. That would be another option. But if it’s doable for you I think the cake idea sounds cute...it’s different!

I think this would be a super cute idea and I would totally do it! I would do a small one at each table and one at the head/sweetheart table and then cake would be done! I think if you kept it simple it wouldn't be too pricey

I agree. The mess and the bugs were the first thing I thought of. My ring bearer (5 years old) also would have had his hands in the cake immediately. Chocolate and salted caramel sounds sooo good!

That's a really great idea! Especially because bridal showers tend to be smaller so you wouldn't need to order as many cakes.

Would be cute! But I think I would do a small cupcake display at each table rather than a small cake! That was no cutting, no extra plates or silverware. Cute idea Smiley smile

I considered this until my cake baker told me it can cost the same (if not more) than an actual wedding cake. It's such a cute idea though! I know someone who did this but she had a family member make all the cakes which obviously helped in price! Smiley smile

One of my daughters briefly considered doing cupcake stand centerpieces. It's a cute idea but she ultimately decided to do flowers instead. The biggest concern was people eating them early and then the middle of the table looks messy. I still think it's an interesting concept though.

That's a good point. I know a ton of people on my side who would dig in right after dinner was served.

I think as long as you have the cakes professionally baked and are okay with the cost, it's a unique idea! I'm just recalling a Bridezillas episode where the girl tried to bake all of them herself with her family and it seemed EXTREMELY stressful! lol

I would make sure to ask if you venue would allow this just for the simple fact that it could get messy. I planned on having different flavors of sheet cakes for my guests and then have our hosts cut them to save on the cake cutting fee that the venue charges. My coordinator said sorry, they do not allow that. We'd have to pay the fee to have them cut the cake for us because of the potential mess *shrugs shoulders*. I think it's a great idea, but I'd double check with them before making the decision.
