Would you hire a personal trainer?

SwoleMates2016, on October 12, 2015 at 4:45 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 35

I am currently studying for my NASM certification, it is a personal trainer course. I have a slight idea of the direction I want to take my business but I would love some input!

If you had the budget/it was affordable enough, would you have or would you now hire a personal trainer to help you get fit for the wedding?

If you saw a personal trainer booth with a program directed at brides-to-be with real life success stories at a wedding show would you be offended, interested, or indifferent?

I had a personal trainer, but had to fire her because she was an emotional wreck. Crying during sessions, over-disclosure of personal information and then started hounding me for money prior to the contracted payment schedule. I would love to have a trainer again, but would prefer someone independent or hired through a serious personal training gym. I am just leary of the Golds gym type trainers.

I would be interested!! My FH and I go together once a week for a 1 hour session - it's $60 for the both of us per session which is the best pricing in our area.

I've had bad experiences with trainers in the past.

They didn't listen to my limitations with my illnesses, and tried to push buying products on me. I don't need a pedometer if I'm using an elliptical.

that being said, if I knew the person had realistic success in the past without pushing supplements, I'd consider it.

Trainers are great! I have had 3 personal trainers over the years and they have all been great. I will probably get another one 6 months before my wedding because I really want to slim down.

I guess you could reach out to brides at a bridal expo, but honestly, with so many YT videos, DVDs, and websites, I don't know if many brides need a personal trainer. Seems a personal trainer is better suited for people who either have struggled with weight all their lives and are lost on how to lose it or those who have specific goals in mind (like they want a six-pack or buns of steel kind of thing) besides just losing some weight.

I hired a personal trainer for a few months. I didn't see any drastic changes in my body, but I learned a ton about working out and healthy living in general.

I would definitely be interested. I've thought about hiring one, but instead my FH just helps me since he's used trainers and knows how to use equipment properly. It would be great if I could afford it.

Yasmina - Knowing a clients limitations is so important! I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences Smiley sad Big box gyms definitely give personal trainers a bad name, it's incredibly frustrating. I would educate clients on supplements but not be behind any brand in particular.

Dancingbear - That's kinda my story! Was always a fat girl and then lost 80lbs.

I interned under an amazing trainer for a year. Then worked at a gym selling memberships and hearing so many stories and just wanted to be able to help. Feel off the fitness bandwagon due to some personal issues Smiley sad But I'm going strong again and really excited to start this journey!

My business would be targeted to woman in general, with a specialty in getting fit for special occasion such as weddings. But then also giving them the tools in order to carry on after they've reached their goal and really make it a lifestyle change.

I wouldn't. I've done just fine with my own cardio program, and using the weight machines at the Y. Relying on a personal trainer would probably reduce the amount I do, because no one hires a personal trainer for the daily exercise that I already do.

Sounds like you have the right mindset to actually HELP people. I like that a lot.

I worked with a trainer for several years even after becoming a trainer myself. I work harder with someone pushing and encouraging me to push out "just a few more reps". Pride is a beotch that gets me in the gym every time.

Wedding weight is a very touchy subject, but generally a lot of brides want to get in shape or tone up a bit before their big day. If you're realistic and personable, (as you seem to be) I think your chances of offending anyone will be minimal.

I actually like the idea of what Treasure's doing-- a trainer who sees the couple together for one price-- obviously not ideal for everyone, but that may be a good package to offer, too, Swole.

I've used several different personal trainers over the years. Although I felt huge increases in my strength, balance, and general mood, I never noticed any weight loss from them.

I certainly would. Different workouts usually help motivate me. I plan on getting one after back to back babies.

It would be more motivating if there was a couples package. I like what Treasure731 is doing, too bad I go to a woman only gym

If I had the money, I would definitely do it. I had some back problems and then my insurance paid for lessons and I learned so much about the machines and how to avoid mistakes when working out. It also helps with accountability. You definitely sound like you are going at it the right way.

We love training as a couple!! At first I wasn't sure about it but we are able to do the same workout and just vary the intensity individually. It's a win-win because not only are we getting fit it's also a fun way to spend time together Smiley smile

I am planning on hiring a personal trainer 3 months before the wedding. I will have to be careful and make sure all alterations are still doable and my dress would still fit, but I don't think I would stick with it if I started personal any sooner than that.

    I wouldn't- I can't get what I need out of a generalized trainer.

Most of what people need can be found through basic searching and self education- so really what speaking as a former trainer what I found was people hire trainers for all sorts of reasons. General speaking it's for focus, motivation or accountability.

And if I attended an expo that had a fitness program- I'd probably steer clear- honestly most of the fitness stuff pitched at women is complete crap- it makes me sad- so I avoid it.
