Would You Sign a Prenup?

The Bride, on July 17, 2019 at 8:59 AM

A prenuptial agreement aka prenup is an agreement that is entered into by a future married couple that lays out certain financial obligations and terms that the parties will abide by during the marriage and in the event of a divorce. Would you sign a prenup? Why or why not?

Just a heads up in some states feeling like you don't have a choice will invalidate the prenup, as they cannot be forced. In some cases a lawyer will ask about this and you may be rejected before signing. If you really don't want to sign one you can mention it to the lawyer.
Also as pointed out your feelings should be respected in a marriage, feeling like you don't have a choice doesn't sound like you're being respected.

Depends on the lawyer and the set of fees they use at their office. We will be seeing them for another matter and will inquire about the price and process at the end of the year.

Not really. No prenup=no marriage. He knows how I feel about it, though. He's accepted that I'm going to be cranky about it for a while lol

He said 'we don't need it'. I explained to him it's just in case, but he insisted not to lol. I don't have any assets to protect so that's why I left the choice up to him.

If there's anything I would disagree with so much that I wouldn't sign a piece of paper about it, it's a stickler to the entire marriage.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm being disrespected. No couple agrees on everything 100% of the time, and this is purely one of those times.

Yes and we are. Marriage is a legal contract that is why we all register with our county/state for licenses et al. Legal contracts need guidelines. We both own properties. We both have debts and pensions and retirement plans. No one goes into a marriage with the intent of waking up years later in a divorce, yet somehow the divorce rate in the U.S. is between 40 to 50%. Divorces are expensive and lengthy. People change. Life happens. It's not a big deal and prenups also cover death of spouse and such other necessary and important realities.
