I heard this topic discussed on the radio this morning & found it quite interesting, as I never really thought about it. The gang was trying to decide why brides/grooms would want to ban cell phones at their wedding & they came up with these reasons:

1. texting/tweeting during a wedding is rude & tacky

2. the bride doesn't want pictures to show up on facebook/Internet before she okays them to be released

Is this true? I totally agree that I think it would be 100% rude to be a guest at a wedding & text/tweet during the ceremony - out of respect for the bride & groom, just put it away. However, I don't think I would go so far as to ban cell phones from the entire wedding. With #2, I think I'd be okay with people posting pictures before I did because it's your wedding & who doesn't want to "show off", IMO.

I didn't (and wouldn't) ban cell phones. I would hope people have more class than to be texting during the weddng but if not oh well.

I promise you that you won't want to show everything off on your wedding day. Like pictures of you eating, or navigating peeing in your dress, or when your sister talks you into doing the chicken dance with her, etc (You get the point).

I helped with setup before the wedding so I wore ratty basketball shorts since I would be changing anyway. So I did my hair and makeup while still wearing them. When I went out to get my mom to help me put my dress on my aunt stopped me and snapped the attached picture. I don't hate the pic since I am a dork and do stuff like that a lot but of the pictures I want people to remember of me on my wedding day this is not one. Yet she didn't think of that before posting it to FB.

THe phrase "Please remember to silence your cell phones" would be sufficient to avoid any disruption. It could be on the program, or the usher can remind people.

You know, it really wasn't that long ago that people actually went to events WITHOUT phones.

Leave the phone in the car.

My SIL is constantly checking texts. The next time I have a meal with him, that damned phone better not be within reach or I may have to dunk it in the nearest glass of liquid. ;-)

Thanks for that!!! I think I will ask that ALL cell phones be turned off during the ceremony both in the programs and announced pre-ceremony!

Im not banning cell phones but i will ask them to be on vibrate (sign posted about that and cameras), However I am banning cameras at the ceremony for a few reasons.

    1. My photographer is on the short side and i dont want people randomly lifting a phone or camera phone in the air and blocking or being in the shot.

    2. I want them to be in the moment instead of trying to take pictures

    3. MOST IMPORTANT..im getting married in a fish tank so any flash photography will totally screw up the pictures were paying for lol

    The reception though, snap away!
