WR: White dance Floor. . . Worth the money???

Andrene, on August 17, 2011 at 9:31 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 28

I'm thinking of getting a white danec floor. Would love to get seamless but at $4000 that's not in budget anymoreSmiley sad I can get a regular dance floor like in the pic below for around $1500. Do you think this is a good investment or should I just stick with the regular wooden dance floor that the venue offers for free???

If its in your budget maybe....but honestly I think the regular wooden dance floor is enough.

Are you guys professional dancers? What do you like about it, other than its white?

Honestly, I think it's gorgeous! Except, when I have been to weddings, I have never really noticed the dance floor color. I don't think many would appreciate it as us "brides" would. Smiley smile I personally wouldn't invest the $1500 for it.

See, this is why I come on here. You ladies always talk some sense into me. This is just the latest in a series of obsessions. That's what comes of planning too early. As you get closer to the date you start to think you need to do more.

I would stick with what the venue offers. I doubt people are going to pay attention to the color of the floor.

Also, it looks like the white one is raised a bit. It could cause people to trip.

As a photographer I can say that would make things a little more difficult in terms of flash reflection. Not that it can't be handled, it's just different. It might even be nicer, who knows? And your dress, assuming it's white, is going to blend into the floor for photos.

Are you willing to spend $1500 for a few guests to say "Oh that's nice" and then forget about it?

Personally I would not, the only thing I remember form all weddings I've attended is how big or how small the dance floor was, that's the only thing that really matters to me when it comes to that, I want room to dance around without bumping into people every second but besides that, I never pay attention to what color they were. Stick with what your venue offer and save your money for something else.

I think that's too much money for something people don't even notice half the time. I've never taken note of what the dancefloor was made of at any event ever. I'd sink that money into something else. GL!

I think wooden is just fine, unless there is something really wrong with it, like it's too slippery. (speaking of which, the white one looks pretty slippery actually... lol)

@Chadwick: My dresses are ivory and aubergine. So no blending. You make a good point about the flash though. We are going to be doing uplighting in the room as well and would have added a monogram tile to the floor (we have low ceilings in the venue so can't do a gobo).

@Patricia & Nik: You are very on point. If this was only a few hundred then I could just shrug and do it but when we go over $1000 I know FH will put up a fightSmiley smile

    Contact this guy: http://www.partyfloor.net/

He can cover a dance floor with a vinyl coating. It's not that difficult to install, so your florist can probably do it.

As for the gobo, if you have a 10' ceiling, a gobo projection on the dance floor is possible. The vendor just needs to know what they're doing. However, you could have partyfloor print your monogram on the coating and use that.

I dont think anyone is really going to pay attention to the dance floor, plus once its full of people no one will see the dance floor.

I would say NO to the dance floor, but only because it could also possibly lead to some horrendous scuff marks by the end of the evening. The medi spa where I get my skin stuff done just painted their floors white a few weeks ago, and now their new white floors have zebra stripes on them and it hasn't even been a month since they did their paint job. Keep in mind, most of the people who go there are also one or two people at a time sitting in the waiting room before going up to one of the rooms, and not a hoard of people dancing the night away.

Still, the dance floor is absolutely lovely, but it might be better if you just went with some really pretty uplighting (if you aren't having this already).

@lenW: I actually considered that place after finding them in a google search. Sadly the venue will not let me cover the floor.

@Esther: You are spot on. We decided to invest the extra funds into going all out on the lighting. We met with the lighting designers today and they came up with some truly amazing ideas. I think our money would be better spent on that. That at least people will definitely notice all night.

@ andrene~yay for uplighting! One of the drawbacks of our venue is that it is completely outdoors, so uplighting wont have the same effect (unless we ordered some huge tents, and I don't think my FI will be up for that...especially after looking at what our wedding budget it already coming out to....Smiley tongue )

@Esther: Be glad you have a stunning venue that doesn't need the lights. Those things are pricey. I do think FH had a mini heartattack when he heard the quoteSmiley smile

In my opinion $1500 is money that could be going towards something else in the wedding, the honeymoon, the house or even a start to a future child's college fund. The wood I'm sure will look beautiful.

and honestly if people walk outside at all or track something in youre really gonna see the dirt on the white floor.

I think you need a vacation from planning. Step away from the bridal magazines and websites (except WW of course). Like you said idle minds make for busy hands. Girl your wedding will be gorgeous (your one of the reasons Im staying on this site even after my current misfortune) and you dont need to add ANYTHING focus on finalizing plans and solidifying deals with your current vendors you already have a lot going on and trust me at the end of the night none of this will matter except for your FH.
