Wrist loops instead of bustle?

MBstew, on July 6, 2016 at 5:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So i totally had my heart set on holding my train up while dancing with the wrist loop...then my seamstress told me that wasnt a thing and they're just there to hang the train up. I see what she's saying but i swear i thought that was a thing! I thought it was so fancy looking like Cinderella! I dont have a very good pic of me holding my train up but you can kinda see it. Regardless i have a second dress I'll change into ater so im not getting it bustled but was curious!

Trains get very heavy for dancing, very quickly, even you're Waltzing. If you're jumping around to fast music, they get heavy even faster. Also, lots of people will trip over your train with the wrist strap.

I had both. It was nice to use the loop to help pick up the bottom of the dress when getting into the party bus on the way to the church and then pictures. I also used the loop when we were taking pictures outside. I used the bustle after we cut the cake and the dance floor was open. The loop came with my dress and the bustle was part of the alterations.

You are not going to want to hold that thing all night.

A wedding I went to the bride did this. Her train wasn't very long and it was thin lace so it wasn't too heavy I would imagine.

The loop they come with is for hangers, not wrists. However, wrist loops are still a thing, at least in the UK. Several of my relatives there have used them. I see pros and cons to either option- do whichever makes you smile more! Your dress is lovely.

Your dress is far too pretty to 80s it up with a wrist loop.

Hahah I still kinda wanna do it while dancing with my dad, it feels so fancy to me! Fortunately i wouldn't have to hold it all night since I'll be changing. Maybe I'll just leave the train down during the first and f/d dance. Thank you girls for your input, your advice in invaluable!

The loop in mine was on the inside and so when I used it to pick up the train (pre-ceremony walking around outside for pictures, for example) it didn't look very nice. I think it's more for temporary convenience, not so much for practical use throughout the whole reception.

Mine has a loop also and when my seamstress suggested I use that to hold up my dress thankfully my friend stepped in and said there's no way that's going to be comfortable for the entire day! I'll probably use it for getting in and around the church for the ceremony but for the reception it's going to be bustled for sure, I don't want to carry it around or accidentally trip someone with it! I see how you think it looks nice and I guess it's up to you since you have a different dress for the reception so you wouldn't have to hold it up all day long! Your dress is beautiful by the way!

I had a bustle and a loop. My sister pulled the buttons off of my bustle so I used the loop all night. Nightmare.

Many women call (and use!) it as a wrist loop, but your seamstress is absolutely right. Trains also get heavy over the course of the night. Remember, you would have to carry that train for the better part of 5 or more hours, when you could bustle it instead and just not have to deal with it.

As a wedding photographer myself, I like having both. The wrist loop is a really great option for my brides to be able to pick up the dress fast for walking between photo locations, car to location...etc. when you know you will want your train down. But definitely bustle for dancing in the evening Smiley smile

I had the same question! I’m only 5’1” and have a fairly long train. I didn’t really like the bustle look and definitely didn’t like what one bride in a dress like mine had where it was lined up with the worst spot on her butt!! (Can try to attach the picture if it works here).. I am open to any bustle suggestions as well Smiley smile !!

This is what I was referring to with the unfortunate bustle placement.

That's what I want to do as well. I'm not changing after the ceremony and I don't want to ruin the look of my dress by bustling. Any suggestions?!
