writing on black envelopes

irishbride685, on February 19, 2010 at 10:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

Anyone else using black envelopes for their invitations? I'm making my own invitations and using all back envelopes for the outer, inner, and r.s.v.p. I have tried about 10 different silver calligraphy pens (water based and oil)but they all look sloppy when used on black paper. I've tried an embossing pen with platinum powder and like the way it looks but it will take forever to address. There is a silver marker by Prismacolor that I sort of like and may use for the inner envelope, but it is pretty thin. Anyone have any other ideas?

Print the envelope - use a PANTONE color for the font. Writing on black paper is never fun nor easy. Check with the ladies at Paper Source, they may have some ideas for you. The Paper Source in Annapolis Town Center is really good. Take a picture of it when you're done - sounds interesting...

Do you need a special printer to use pantone ink?

They are beautiful. Im using dark brown envelopes and I opted to use labels. We have an Autumn theme so I printed a leafy border around it and it blended nicely into the brown. Im also using a gel pen to write on an inner envelope.

You could do a wrap around label

For diy brides with non-commercial printers, we suggest wrap around labels. Professionally printed envelopes that are dark in color are typically either foil stamped or engraved.

I go with the wrap around label. You could even make them yourself

I haven't figured all the details yet, but I'm using the platinum vellum and a sticker maker machine to make my own labels. The sticker backing works great with the platinum vellum that I am using. I was hesitant because the vellum is kind of a shiny metallic, not like clear vellum. When I work it all out I'll post a picture of it.

I believe sharpie makes calligraphy pens, and they make excellent silver sharpies. Smiley smile

I love the silver sharpies I use them all the time at work. Everyone knows when I have made a sign or marked something. But unfortunately they are an oil based marker and soak in too much to the black paper.
