We have about a year and 3 months until our wedding. Whenever an idea for the vows pops into my head, I jot it down on my notes app on my phone. I plan to compile all those thoughts together into my vows. I think I want to have my part finished about a month out from the wedding.

I like the idea someone posted above about having someone read both of your vows to make sure they vibe together. For example I wouldn't want mine to be 3 pages and his be 3 sentences.

I've been with my FH since the kiddo was almost 2. (1 and a half) I know its very important to my FH and the kiddo is a big part of everything we do. He has no idea I will be writing vows to the kiddo, so it's a surprise! Smiley shame

Awww I love that! I have a 6 year old and my FH has been such an amazing step dad to her, we're trying to figure out ways to include her in the ceremony as well. I think she may walk down the aisle with me, which would be a surprise to him.

Walking you down the aisle is GREAT idea. I didnt think of that only because he is our ring bearer. Smiley heart gosh, super cute!

We are writing our own. My FH said he already started on his, with our wedding being NEXT OCTOBER. I still have not started. I think I am a decent writer, but I am also a very decent procrastinatory. I will probably just wing it during our ceremony and say what I feel at that moment.

Vows are typically one to two minutes long.

If you find yours are longer than two minutes, you could put some of your more personal thoughts in a letter for your partner to read the morning of the wedding Smiley smile

So we did our vows a little differently....we did them together. We picked 6 topics that were most important to us, and wrote 2-3 lines for each. Then in the ceremony we alternated topics. Altogether, it was probably less than 5 minutes.

I haven’t wrote mine yet, but I plan to write mine by myself! I’m also a great writer though. It’s one of my strong points haha. But I think some people like to get help! I’m pretty sure my FH will get his best man to help him, since he happens to be good writer too lol!

I’m a poet and I’m absolutely writing my own vows. Some inspiration is YouTube and seeing how others did theirs. Another thought is channeling into your favorite love songs and allowing that to inspire you. But, the best bet is to not worry about anything other than your feelings and your heart and how your fiancé makes you feel.
    Some prompts:
Why do you love your fiancé?
Since being with your fiancé, how has your life changed?
What do you love most about your fiancé?
What do you look forward to?
What does marriage mean to you?

I plan on writing my own and will start at least 3 months prior because I want them to be special and I want to memorize them.

We are reading our vows between the ceremony and the reception. Neither if us like speaking in front of large groups, even if it is family, so we will read our own personal vows with just us and the photographers.

Writing our own vows. Been jotting down notes since the engagement of heartfelt things I'd like to say as they come to my mind so I don't forget. While it's important to say how much you mean to each other and how your SO makes you feel, I also try to remember that these are vows so I also need to include my covenant/promise that I will fulfill during the marriage.

I thought about it, but would stress out FH, so decided to have my sister be officiant.
My original thoughts were to keep it simple and to the point. Give my promises as to what was most important to us, not what was traditionally said and promised.
Hope this helps, and don't forget to just follow your heart and have fun with it.
