Writing thank you notes

I am curious on how everyone went about writing their thank you notes? I just had my bridal shower and my sister wrote down every gift I received from each person. Now growing up I was always told to write thank you for the generous gift or thank you for the thoughtful gift, never to say in the card what you received. Would I do the same for the bridal shower gifts or would I put: ex: Thank you Abby for the cook wear baking set.?
