Wrong Color Bridesmaids Dress!

Brianna, on May 29, 2024 at 9:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
My bridesmaids are wearing 1 of 3 different colors that I assigned them. My sister picked one of my colors but not the one I assigned, leaving one of my girls wearing a color that the rest of the girls is not wearing! Both girls already have their dresses and have had them altered and the wedding is in less than a month, what do I do!?!

If there are already multiple colors being worn, and they all look OK together, then I wouldn’t worry about it.

I am confused to be honest. You say your sister picked one of your colors, but yet it wasn't one that was assigned so how does that make sense and did she pick it for someone else because you also say that it leaves one of your girls in a different color. Please make this make more sense so I understand.

My bridesmaids are wearing sage green, champagne and and blush. I assigned them each their color. My sister was assigned sage but she bought blush, leaving the other girl that I assigned sage to be the only one in sage.

I think you’re only options here are:
    1. Just let it go

    2. Request your sister get the dress in the correct color (which I doubt is going to go over very well, since she is already out the money for the dress and the alterations)
    3. You purchase a new dress in the correct color for your sister.

Although this is a new trend of different colors and styles for dresses, I think by assigning different colors it makes things more confusing and it sounds like your sister might have gotten confused on what color she was supposed to wear unless of course she intently picked the wrong color. How did you just find out she picked the wrong color? Did you not see her in the dress or have her show you what she picked beforehand?

I think you have two options really. You could either just deal with it the way it is or you can buy her a different dress and pay for it to be altered. I will say that it's definitely possible to get a different dress and altered within a month. My sister decided seven days prior to my wedding she hated her bridesmaids dress and refused to wear it. So I ended up going to David's Bridal (where all the bridesmaids got their dresses) and picked a dress style she liked in the correct color and size and had her overnight shipped to her and she had it altered within two days. I paid for the dress and shipping and my mom paid for the alterations. My sister didn't have the money to buy a new dress and my mom and I didn't want to deal with the drama of her being difficult so we just paid for it.

One option for a cheaper dress is to look on Poshmark or eBay or somewhere online for a pre-owned bridesmaids dress in the sage color you're looking for. It'd likely be cheaper (and probably quicker) than ordering a new one.

Thank you so much for the feedback! If I could do it all over again I would have done all one color!

How many bridesmaids do you have total? It might be a non-issue if your wedding party is big enough.

Maybe you could add a chiffon scarf from their neck to waist level to give continuity despite the different dress colors.
