Wrong Length Dress Ordered

Aryel, on August 12, 2021 at 11:11 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Has anyone ever had the wrong length dress order by the consultant? I mean maybe at this point I just need people who get it, but here is what happened:

I'm a taller gal, 5'9 and will be wearing heels on my wedding day- custom made shoes. When my dress was ordered and I was measured the shoes I had on were even taller than the shoes I have for my wedding day. The consultant said I "should be fine" and that the hollow to hem length was perfect and shouldn't need to be altered, so I'd "save a little on that." Even though it was during a Hayley Paige Trunk show so the extra long/tall option wouldn't have been an up-charge for this dress. I had my arrival appointment and brought my custom shoes, and the consultant said it was a perfect length again even when I said it felt a little short.

Yesterday I met with the seamstress, who works with the store, and I paid extra to be a "VIP Bride" with them to get her for alterations. I brought my shoes had them on and when the dress was adjusted to sit where it should and fit me best, it's about 1/2-1 inch too short! I just feel lost and I wait for the store to get back to me. My wedding is in 86 days and I paid a pretty penny for the dress and matching veil. The store and seamstress are 2.5 hours away one way.

Has ANYONE had anything similar or gotten any positive spins on this? I just want to cry.Has anyone ever had the wrong length dress order by the consultant? I mean maybe at this point I just need people who get it, but here is what happened:

Can you speak with the seamstress to see if it can be lengthened in any way? I haven't experienced this but I would definitely get recommendations from a seamstress.

I did bring it up to her- mainly because she also pointed out it was short. All I could do is “get shorter shoes” which I understand but also, these were shorter than we even measured/prepared for.

I'd be getting some money back if I wasn't happy

Will that half inch be noticeable to anyone but you? There should be plenty of seam allowance in the hem to allow for lengthening that amount. Or go ahead and get different shoes if the alteration isn't possible and you won't be able to overlook it. I understand your shoes are custom-made, but if the dress cost more than the shoes, then it makes sense to get new shoes.

I'm sorry this happened. It's hard to accept when you trust the person who helped you order it is supposed to know their stuff the best. I had a similar situation with my dress, I'm busty but short so in order to get the right coverage on top they had to order a much bigger size, when it came in it fell right off of me. . .which didn't make sense since it was supposed to fit the bust area.

I would be very upset, especially since you pointed this out to them prior to ordering. I would try to stay away from lengthening unless you can get the exact material .

I know you mentioned changing shoes, which might just be the easiest fix. Try not to let this get to you too much, there is a fix just might not be the fix you want.
