Year on Invitations?

D1, on April 5, 2013 at 2:35 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 33

What are you using?

2013 (informal)

Two thousand thirteen (formal)

Two thousand and thirteen (formal)

Twenty thirteen (?)

or 12 or 14 as the case may be for some of you!

I have seen in several different ways and was just curious on how everyone did/is doing it.

Two thousand thirteen, probably. I hate the "and"; I don't say it that way.

2013, invites aren't formal at all.

    But

Two thousand thirteen - is just wrong really really wrong (sorry desiree and janessa) It always use the and and actually I'd go as far as saying it is grammatically incorrect based on the numbering and counting system used in english (can you tell I'm a teacher Smiley tongue )

Two thousand and thirteen - If we were doing more formal invites we would use this

Twenty thirteen - no just no

I put two thousand and thirteen. Because like Ned said it's grammatically correct. I am not a teacher but I am a grammar Nazi.

I tried to look it up but got too many conflicting answers on what was proper.

I will use 2013 - the writing it out is too formal for me.

But it should be two thousand AND thirteen if you are writing it out.

I was taught in Math the "AND" represents a decimal point otherwise it should not be stated or written when writing numbers.(the AND on the checks represents the decimal because you are about to tell how many cents)... ALL over the internet and all throughout wedding history most invitations have "AND".

    I don't say one hundred and twenty-five; I say one hundred twenty-five

SO I didn't want to say or write two thousand and thirteen

I am using two thousand thirteen.

I am also a teacher and my students are taught NOT to say "AND" in math..LOL

Great "debate" :-) guess it depends on your preference

Yea, I gotta disagree with you Ned.

The correct way to write 2013 is "two thousand thirteen." Like Takeivia said, when you are dealing with numbers "and" represents the decimal point. On too many "wedding ettiquette" sites, it does state to use the "and," however I will always view that as incorrect. (I'm a teacher as well.)

I actually didn't put a year! But that's because everyone already knows we are getting married this year. Hope there is no confusion. But the year is on the RSVP card!

As a copy editor, I have to throw my support behind those saying that "two thousand thirteen" is correct. No 'and.'

Two thousand thirteen is the proper and correct way to spell the year. There is not supposed to be an "and." However, I have seen it listed in FAQ's on the net and even on invitation printing companies.

I was taught that too in school, the "and" represents a decimal. So for ours it will be twenty fourteen or two thousand fourteen.
