Young brides

Hannah, on February 2, 2017 at 10:31 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 285

Are there any young brides out there? 18-24 how is your wedding planning going so far? Are any of you getting any negative comments or just happy ones? Congratulations to all who are getting married I know how excited I am! Just curious to see how everyone else is handling this process.

*Update*

I apologize if anyone thought I was being rude or calling them old. I was just looking for people around my age to comment to see what they were feeling and what not. Thank you to all the people who did comment and were helpful!

I'm 23 and no I have not received any negative comments. FH and I have been together for almost 7 years so everyone knew we would get married eventually. Planning is going good, at the point where I just want to get everything done right this minute. Congrats to you and good luck planning!

I'm 23, I made your cutoff of "young"! It's funny, somedays it doesn't bother me and other days I feel really young. I think it doesn't help that I'm going to medical school so I'll basically feel young until I'm 30 since I'll still be in school. I haven't gotten any negative comments but occasionally i'll get the "weird look" from people when I say I'm getting married. My FH and I have been together for 7 years so none of our friends/family are surprised we're tying the knot so soon. I say if you're old enough to afford a wedding and realize that marriage is hard work then you're old enough to get married Smiley smile

I'm 24! Everything is going well, I think! I've been told I'm really ahead of the game. We pretty much have all the big stuff taken care of except for catering which is driving me insane. I told FH that we must find a catering company by the end of this month!

18year olds and 24year olds and vastly different in terms of identity development, brain development, and life experience. Let's not lump them into the same category.

I look 16, lol, so people give me weird looks all the time when I talk about "my fiance." We've been engaged for over three years, though, so I'm just ready to be married and be done planning. We have the rest of our lives to live! I don't think anyone has said anything negative, though.

You'll get a lot of advice on here that its probably best to wait, there is no rush. People change ALOT in their early 20's and the divorce rate is extremely high because of this.

Good Luck though, as I know we wont be able to change your mind.

I'm 24 now but will be turning 25 a few weeks before our wedding. FW and I have been together 6.5 years, known each other for 10, so everyone was just waiting on the official announcement. Weirdness is coming from my family and hers but not because of our age, but because we're ss.

There is a huge different between 24 and 18. Let's not lump those together. I wouldn't side eye someone who was engaged at 23 or 24 but I would sure as hell side eye someone engaged that was under 21.

Also, why did you exclude vendors from his thread. This community has multiple vendors that give wonderful advice.

There is even a difference between 18 and 22. I've said this before on one of these threads, so I'll say it again. I was engaged previously when I was 19-20. Thank goodness I didn't go through with the marriage because I would probably be divorced by now. The guy was a complete ass and was emotionally abusive, but I thought I was in love. You change a lot from 18-22 and are still growing as an individual. You barely know who you are and what you want around that time in your life, why would you want to be legally connected to someone at that point? Go to college, get a great job, figure out your career goals, travel and learn about yourself! There is nothing wrong with any of that. I watched the movie How to be Single the other night while FH was at work. Even I was like "Damn, there are so many things that I haven't done yet!". And now, I have to factor in another persons needs and wants into what I want. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change anything for the world right now and I know that FH will be nothing but supportive of what I want to do, or where I want to go so I'm not worried about it. But if you have the chance to do all of this while you are younger take it! I wish I would have!

There's a huge difference in my 18-year-old self compared to now at 24. I can't imagine getting MARRIED at 18. Gag.

I am definitely an old bride!! I consider anything before 28 to be young. When I was 25 I broke up with my boyfriend of 5 years and moved to Europe. So much can change in your 20's or nothing can really change. Totally depends on the person! I will be 38 in March and three years ago finally met the guy. I guess I am really picky. HaHa! Still a little bit freaked out about the kind of commitment that comes with marriage but I am excited to see where life takes us. I hope that all brides, young and old, realize how much work it takes to not only stay in the marriage (that's easy. you just don't leave) but to actually be happy for 30, 40, 50 or 60 + years. Congratulations to you all!
