I apologize if anyone thought I was being rude or calling them old. I was just looking for people around my age to comment to see what they were feeling and what not. Thank you to all the people who did comment and were helpful!

I'm an "old bride" at 30, but I've been with FH since i was 17. we went through some serious growing pains in our early to mid twenties as we began to navigate adulthood. I'm so glad we waited as long as we did, and now there are no lingering doubts on either side as to whether we're ready. The last few years I've had the opposite issue with people badgering us as to whether we were ever going to settle down.

@Diamin mostly the "blah blah blah.". Parents and family offer advice because they have done what you are doing before and have learned from what they have done. It's advice that should be heard and respected.

OGK- never said it was people on this site, just people in general. I completely understand the statistics/ facts and I'm not trying to dispute them. We are having a 2 year engagement so we won't be married until 23, so we are waiting a little while.

I'm 25. I feel young. I'm glad we waited until now to be married. When we do get married i'll be almost 26.

I'm so thankful I didn't marry the man I was with at 18. Yikes.

@Diamin, you do you boo! If you don't accept advice from family, I'm sure you're not going to accept advice from people on the internet! I sincerely wish you and your SO nothing but the best!

Saying "blah blah blah" demonstrates how you can't even entertain others advice in an appropriate way especially that of loved ones.

You could have said "my parents disagrees with my decision but I do not agree with their reasoning" but instead you said "blah blah blah". It says a lot about maturity.

I'll be 24 when the wedding rolls around and FH will be 25. I don't get any looks or comments from people, though we did at first because we were engaged a bit young (I was 21) but we waited to be out of school. I think I'll have one semester left after the wedding and that's it. The biggest stressor has been balancing work, grad school, and finishing up planning, but it's mostly done and we're both balancing everything very well. I do recommend, like many PP to wait a bit if you're 18-22. FH and I have been together for 4 yrs, so we grew with each other as a couple through our undergrad years, but it was extremely difficult. I can't imagine having been married at the time on top of that. We wanted to get married right away and I'm so glad we decided on a long engagement and to wait a few years, for us 3.5 yrs, to get married. Even just in that time, we've gone through a lot of maturing and changing, and we're an even stronger couple now than we were before in large part because we waited.

I'm so glad I never made it down the aisle to marry the man I was engaged to at 19. YUCK.

Ugh OP don't. I'm 24 and have more maturity in my pinky than most 18 yo brides. Please don't put me in the same category as them.

There is a huge difference in maturity levels from that age range. If I would've married the guy I was with at age 18 (my live-in college boyfriend) I would've turned out miserable. But thankfully, I finished maturity, found out who I am, and where I need to go and I grew up.

I'm glad you think it's cute but I'm not trying to do it. I'm just trying to have a conversation and offer someone advice from a different perspective than their own, and you are included in that.

OGK- no problem, and I completely understand everyone's skepticism towards getting married young, just not when some people, not any one particular or on this site, generalize it and say that no young marriages last. Which I have heard before.
