I apologize if anyone thought I was being rude or calling them old. I was just looking for people around my age to comment to see what they were feeling and what not. Thank you to all the people who did comment and were helpful!

I'd actually like to keep my comments here thank you.

@Karandra, if he doesn't want to pay for a big wedding and you still want to get married then you need to compromise like adults. Not rely on mommy and daddy to fix it for you.

Kassandra- I would suggest some premarital counseling. With being so young and the fact your disagree on how to spend your money. I think it would do you both a big favor.

FH and I are both 23. I just graduated with my masters degree and have a good job secured and FH is financially stable. We've been together for 4 and a half years and have wanted to get married for quite a while but waited until the timing was right. We have not really gotten any negative comments...everyone has been excited for us. I don't think I would put us in the same category as someone who's 18 or 20 years old. I don't think it's impossible to defy the odds against you and I don't know your relationship, but its definitely wise to wait until you are ready financially and emotionally. I'm glad we waited until we were both out of school. We got to have more time with our friends, focus more on studying, got financially ready before marriage, and grew a lot in our relationship.

Why would you think they wanna be a part of it? Have they shown any interest? Not everyone is gonna be excited about YOUR wedding. That's life. Time to grow up.

ETA: He doesn't want a wedding but he proposed? So does he want a courthouse wedding? That can be a good compromise.

License and courthouse, a few hundred bucks. Done. The rest can go toward his business.

Kasandra, do you have a job? Or are you just financially dependent on your FH and family?

You're going to do a lot of compromising in marriage. If you didn't know that already, seek counseling and wait a few more years.

I don't understand why you are planning a wedding if your FH doesn't want one. Does he just want to elope and be done with it? If you can't afford to pay for your own wedding, you probably shouldn't be too worried about having kids. They are expensive.

Also, agreeing with @OGK about getting some counseling.
