I am a current Junior in college and have been dating my fiancee for almost 6 years now & recently we got engaged... but every time someone asks about it they seem almost appalled that I would consider getting engaged "so young" when I should be out "dating around" like "

all the other 21 year olds." We aren't planning the wedding until the September after I graduate and he is 2 years older than me so I don't really see why everyone is so shocked. Even my close friends were when they found out (they are getting better now)... Because of all this I hesitate telling others.

I know I shouldn't let it bother me, and normally it doesn't, but every time someone says something or makes a funny face I can't help but feeling a little bit awkward, frustrated, and upset...

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

My FH and I are both 21. We have been together for 2 years now and have been friends for 2 years before we dated. My story is different from others. Our families didn't have a choice to not approve of our engagement. The reason why I said no one had a choice to approve is because my FH and I had a baby in August 2008. When we found out we was pregnant in 2007 some people were upset (they thought we were to young). Then everyone met our lil' one and everyone feel in love. Now everyone is excited for us to make our family whole.

I am SO happy there are other people who understand what i'm going through. i'm really glad i found this site. i was over at theknot.com and every single response i got to my post was people telling me how stupid i was for wanting to get married young and stories about other people's failed engagements when they were 19. it's so frustrating because this is something i'm really excited about and i think if people think i'm making a mistake they should just keep it to themseves instead of shooting me down and saying i'm a dumb little kid who is throwing their life away. it makes me feel really bad because i just wanted to be able to share my excitement with people.

Not yet engaged but planning on it soon! We'll be engaged when we're both 22, and I am just dreading these comments. I already get looks whenever I casually mention getting married "eventually". My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 years and everyone adores him (most of all me, ofc). But I almost feel like I won't be able to celebrate cuz I'll be so upset about the judgement of it all.

Ugh I'm in the same boat!! BF and I have been together for 4 years and want to get engaged about a year from now. Everyone thinks that's so young (we'll both be 22 and want a 2-3 year engagement) and I just can't even stand it anymore
