Your engagement: Did you know it was coming?!

Could you tell when he / she was going to pop the question, or was your engagement a complete surprise?? If you're the one that popped the question, did you surprise your SO??

Yup, I knew. We had talked about marriage previously and he had sent me pictures of rings the year before to get my opinion on them. (My ring has a blue diamond center and he wanted to make sure that I liked it before he bought the ring). He also made dinner reservations for us on Valentine's Day, which is also my birthday, and wouldn't tell me where we were going. Then when we were in the restaurant, he refused to take his coat off and insisted he had to go wash his hands before we ordered (he was telling the waiter that he wanted to propose and had the kitchen put the ring on a raspberry in my dessert).

I had very strong suspicions. Of course I knew because we bought the ring together. He then kept it hidden for 3 months. I kept bugging him to tell me where it was and he wouldn't budge. He told me he wanted it to be special.

So for my birthday he had bought me tickets to the ballet. We went to the ballet 2 month later. For some reason I just knew...I went to the gym in the afternoon and I got myself ready for our night out there, so I was looking fancy when I came home. Sure enough he was there looking quite dapper and he proposed.

Complete surprise. He proposed after 9 months on a trip to Disney World. I suppose the trip to Disney should have tipped me off but it was so soon that I was completely blindsighted in the best possible way.

When he got down on one knee he said "I'm going to propose to you now" lol. But i knew beforehand because *guilty face* i was reading through his texts when I saw one to his cousin about "taking me to the spot where we had our first date and doing it there". When he asked me to go to the park i was like "YAAAAAASSSSSSSS" in my head the whole time, but it definitely ruined the surprise.

I had an idea that it was coming, but didn't know exactly when. We dated for 3 years and then he was supposed to move across the country for a job and we had discussed getting engaged before he left in May. The job fell through so I thought we were back to square one, and it would be a year or more before we got engaged (he is a VERY careful decision maker). Little did I know, he had purchased the ring in April and regardless of the move, he was ready to propose. We went hiking in June and he proposed to me at sunrise on the mountain! He had set the timer on his camera when I wasn't looking, so he got some great pics as well Smiley smile

I knew it was coming. FH had me pick out the ring and told me when he ordered it. We had plans to hang out in the town where we met with my best friend, who introduced us, and her husband on the day FH proposed. I suspected that he was up to something. I asked if I should wear a dress. He said yes. That was the first give away. Then, he rambled on and on for the entire hour long drive. That was the second give away. The major giveaway that I didn't pick up on was that it was the anniversary of the day we met.

Had no idea it was coming. I had "whined" about him buying me a ring for ages it seemed like. He never gave it up. We went to visit my parents a few months before he asked me, and apparently he asked my Dad, and NO ONE said a word. We went on our normal date night, and it was during the day time, so, we went and picked up sushi, grabbed a blanket and went to a local park and ate sushi, talked a bit. Then he was like, I need to run to the car for a second. I stayed and stared at the ducks. He came back and had roses and got down on one knee and proposed. I had no idea. So romantic!

I totally knew! We kept talking about marriage, and he said he had already picked a day to propose. He said it was "special to both of us". Our two year anniversary was coming up so I knew it had to be then. My friends came into town the weekend before, and we all hung out. I told my friends I thought it was coming, and they agreed--he was acting weird, I was talking with a recently engaged friend and complimented her ring and he was staring at it too, he was distant, he wanted to go hiking on our anniversary to a waterfall (we NEVER do stuff like that). Well, our anniversary came around and it was raining, so we went to a fancy restaurant instead...and he put on a suit. He's a casual guy so I thought that was weird. At the restaurant he didn't do anything, and I was pissed--I thought I misjudged it! We stopped for an errand on the way home. We finally get home and he drops to one knee and asks! I lost it! I started crying and of course said yes Smiley smile We went to pick out an engagement ring that weekend (he knows I'm picky about things and wanted to make sure I loved it)

I knew because we lived together and when I was putting away laundry I found a little black box. I swear I DID NOT open it, but I knew what was in there. It was so hard to keep myself from peeking. To this day he'll swear I peeked, but I didn't when he did ask, I was delightfully surprised to see a beautiful antique white gold ring with nearly 0.5 ct round diamond in it. His mother had purchased rings from an estate sale when her boys were young, and when he told her he was ready to pop the question she let him choose one of them. He chose WELL!!!! -- And he still tries to "hide" stuff in his dresser, lol!

FW had no clue! And in fact while we were driving she even said "You should propose to me here...I mean not today but someday!" ~ Definitely panicked. It was cold, so not many people were at the Overlook~ which I knew she wouldn't want anyone around when I proposed. Her dream was always to get married wearing white doc martens under her dress. So I bought her a pair, placed them in a gift bag that was engraved with our names and date of proposal. Once we got to the top of the Overlook I reached inside my book bag to take the shoes out, and she responded with "Why do you have a bag within a bag?" ~ I giggled and had her open it. She was so confused and said "What are these for and why would you bring them with you?" ~ At this point I knew she had no clue even when every clue possible was right in front of her......I said something to line of "I want to laugh with you forever" and when I got down on my knee and took the ring out *which I had custom made for her* she still asked if this was for real and it was all perfect.......I can't wait to marry her!

Mine was an absolute surprise. He took advantage of a day I planned for us. We road the ski train to Winter Park, Colorado and he proposed on the deck at sunspot lodge. I had absolutely no idea until I turned to look at him and he was down on one knee. Best day of my life.

Ehh, kinda. I skydive & he is absolutely afraid of even the thought of it. He surprised me with plans to go skydiving & I was like oh, ok, sure... Didn't step on his toes or ask too many questions bc I knew he was scared out of his mind. What I didn't know is that he had both of our families waiting in the drop zone area where he got down on one knee & propsed. We also have it on video from the very beginning, a little clip of him talking before the jump- saying I'll never get him to jump out of a plane ever again, to me crying my eyes out saying yes. It was perfect.
