Your Fiance and Your Dress!

So last night I was asking fiance what kind of dress he thought I'd picked! So last night I was asking fiance what kind of dress he thought I'd picked! He is positive he knows the silhouette (he totally does) and has some thoughts on other elements - whether it's backless, strapless, frontless or sideless, whether it will be covered in beads or diamontes or made out of lace or slinky fabric! He even used logic to deduct the colour, since I debated picking pink (my bridesmaids are in pink, and he thinks I'd have chosen something to contrast with them if my dress was also pink). Of course I haven't told him he's 100% right! It makes me happy to think he knows me so well, but I think I could have equally enjoyed surprising him with an unexpected choice!

It got me thinking. Did you reveal any details to your fiance (or fiancee!) Do you think they know what you've picked? Do you think they will like it, and would you pick what you wanted even if you knew they wouldn't? Maybe you took them with you and had them help you choose, or maybe you brought it home and showed them straight away! If you're married, were they right about their pick or way off?

Tell me the story of your fiance/e and your dress!

I haven't found my dress yet and have only been to one appointment so far (2nd on Sunday) but it has been SOOOO hard trying not to tell my fiancé stuff. He's the one who doesn't want to know and wants to be totally surprised, and I'm used to sharing every exciting thing in my life with him so this is killing me lol. I asked him if there was anything he'd like to see and I'm keeping those in mind as I look, but he is dead set on wanting to wait until he sees me walking down the aisle.

My husband had no idea what I picked and didn't care.

We never discussed my dress before the wedding, and after the wedding the only thing he's ever mentioned about how I looked that day was how beautiful my eyes were.

I could have wrapped myself in an old boat sail a la Ariel in the Little Mermaid and he would have still raved about how beautiful I was that day.

My fiance would never be able to guess what dress I got because I got something completely different from what I'd ever chose. The reason is I wanted a plan mermaid style dress, I don't care for the poofy princess dress, and I didn't want anything with to much detail because I have so many tattoos and felt it might clash. I tried on a bunch of plan mermaid style dresses but never could see myself as a bride in them, I end up falling in love with a big poofy dress with so much details.

My husband knew I'd pick a ballgown. I swoon every time I see one on TV or in a movie. He knew what I liked just like your husband did and he would joke around by guessing everything wrong. My favorite part was when he told me it was going to have a really long "tail." He didn't know it was called a train 🤣

Don't worry if he knows all of the elements, or even if he sees the whole dress beforehand. It will still be different on the wedding day when he sees you wearing it!
To answer your other question, I would definitely choose the dress I want, regardless of what he thinks he'd prefer. I'm a modest person and would not feel comfortable wearing some styles. He wouldn't like that either so it worked out! It would probably ruin my day if I chose my dress for someone else.

I totally know what you mean! My husband dropped me off at my appointment and went to the mall across the street to look at suits. I found my dress and ordered it that day. He picked me up and we went to lunch. I wanted to tell him everything, but he didn't want to know anything. He asked me every morning before he opened the closet door whether he could look inside. He was so afraid of catching a glimpse! 😂

I hope you find your dress on Sunday!

Thank you, I hope so too! When I came home from my last appointment I couldn't stop talking about the dresses I decided against and he said "You're not going to be able to not tell me anything, are you?" 😂 I said "Nope! Let me get some of this out now before I get closer to finding the one!" If he could he would be completely surprised about my entire look for our day, but he already knows I'll be wearing my hair down and curled because that's his favorite.

Aww, so cute! So funny about the shoes. That was one of the first things I bought, and my fiancé came too.

Lol! Good save! Such beautiful dresses and you look fabulous in both - LOVE that fabric (although I’m probably a little biased bearing in mind my dress, haha)

Ooh that’s the most involved fiancé response we’ve had so far!! I love it! I did ask my fiancé if there was anything he truly hated and that I wouldn’t get that, and he said mermaid, but later admitted he doesn’t mind them and just wanted to give me an answer, lol! He’s very easy going and if I love it that will be enough for him to like it.
Were you on a similar page about what you liked? Did his choices surprise you? What silhouette did he like best in the end?

Aww that is so sweet! I haven’t decided yet on whether I should show my fiancé what the other dress options were. I did take photos of them but I guess I worry he might like them more than what I bough!

Awww this is so sweet. I know exactly what you mean. I do want to keep it a secret but he’s the person whose opinion and thoughts matter most so it’s hard! I also wished I could ask his advice on whether or not to add sleeves to my dress, but of course I couldn’t, so when he mentioned the other day that he though I probably had them on my dress or wanted to get them because I’m always cold… it felt so comforting and reassuring!

Haha that is adorable. I’m sure you would have looked stunning in an old boat sail too.

Ooh did you say what you didn’t like about them, and were they all the same silhouette or different? Did he say anything that made you think he’d like/not like what you did actually pick?

Lol! So funny how this happens.
I went in open to all silhouettes and would have liked a mermaid, but they just… did not suit me. Which was fine in the end because ballgowns had always been my first love! Pouf dresses unite!

    Haha so sweet!
And I would pick what I wanted too, although I’d take his opinions into consideration. Like, if he preferred ballgowns to mermaids and I was trying to decide, I’d keep his preference at the back of my mind. Like you, I wouldn’t wear something that I hated or made me uncomfortable.
It’s funny watching Say Yes to the Dress, how many women seem to pick things for other people. A little tweak is ok, but allowing others to insist on major, sweeping changes and when the bride gives up her dream dress … so sad Smiley sad

Yes!!! I was honestly so worried about being talked out of my dream dress and having too many opinions. I only took my mom when I went dress shopping and she was very quiet because she wanted me to decide if I liked it before giving her opinion. She ALWAYS has something to say, so I kept taking her silence as a bad thing. It worked out though!
