Your Most Ridiculous Wedding Idea

We've all had them... $300 Bridesmaids Shoes, live animals as guest favors, acrobats hanging from the ceiling, nude interpretitive dances (straight off of David Tutera), DIY centerpieces made of some rare flower only grown by Himalayan Monks in June when your wedding is actually in November... What...

What was your most RIDICULOUS wedding idea that made you have to sit back and say, "ok, now things are getting out of hand"...

Folks are sounding stressed and I think all of us crazy brides could stand to sit back and laugh at ourselves sometimes...

BTW: I'm the $300 Bridesmaids Shoes...haha! I still kind of think it's a good idea, but I have found a more reasonably priced alternative at Nine West...

I wanted sparklers shooting out of the centerpieces when we make our entrance at the reception. It sounded like such a great idea.. until I was brought back to reality with my fiance's reaction

I wanted to rent a dance floor to put over the pool at our rental house venue. It was very cool looking and would have given us a lot more room to play with. It also would have blown our budget sky high.

I also thought of asking Christina Perri to come to our ceremony and sing A Thousand Years for us. My Mom taught her when she was in grade school and still talks to her Mom once in a while. My Mom squashed that idea and my rational self knows she is right. But it would have been very cool ...

I looked at a Scottish castle wedding venue.. we're from Massachusetts, H is in grad school, neither of us could have taken off enough time to make the trip worth it, no one would have showed and it would have cost a ton. but it would have been so cool..

Paid pretty much all of our deposits... Then deciding I'm tired of the b.s. and just want a destination wedding with no guests.

    ....still contemplating that one actually.

We originally wanted to rent a mansion and have a small wedding there. Until we saw rental prices. :-/

I did, however, get wedding day Louboutins. I used my own personal funds so FH couldn't complain. I don't think he would anyway. They are my dream shoes and they will get a lot of wear after the wedding.

I initially thought of Disney. I would probably do a Disney vow renewal on an anniversary. I know half of each of our siblings and kids would go so we would have a good 50 people. The problem is we have a guest list of closer to 300. Even only expecting 250 to show from that, it's unrealistic to think they would all go to Disney.

I wanted and still want a pink hummer limo.. But the price is way out of our budget for how little we will be using it. Hopefully the BMs come up with a plan for the bachelorette party and we will get one then!!

When I was looking to keep our DW in the States, I came across this beautiful little place in the Keys. I fell in love with it.

And yes, one of those prices IS $500,000. Then I remembered I'm just middle-class.

I wanted to do an Elvis Impersonator at a drive thru in Vegas. FH is very conservative and thought I was nuts. So we are having an Eastern Orthodox wedding and it will be beautiful and traditional. So much for Elvis, loll.

My crazy went in the other direction. When someone asked me what I'd be wearing, I said, "Oh, I'll just pick something I already own."

There was this castle... before we were even engaged, we were just discussing it and I found it and died a little inside at the prices. If only... *sigh*

Also I would kill for fireworks! We're getting married at a lake and I just think it would be perfect. I haven't even priced it because I'm almost 100% sure we cant afford it lol

Most ridiculous idea had to be... everything we wanted.

Estate home in December with full catering and rental of the ballroom for a ceilidh. A kathy ireland gown and quality cotton kilt for FH. Mini highland games and a bagpiper.

A honeymoon. Neither of us have passports, nearest office is a city over.. the bill before we even left the country would stack up fast.

"Family", the craziest idea so far lol

I'm a very over the top, elaborate and fancy kind of person. None of my ideas are "ridiculous", they're just amazing.

I bought a dress that was 2-3 sizes too small and when I continued to eat French fries and chocolate cake it didn't magically fit. Go figure. So I bought another dress that actually fits. But it's not my dream dress like the first one. So I kept looking. And right when I was about to my a THIRD dress I realized I was crazy and may need wedding therapy ;-)

Thinking I could pull off my David Tutera inspired wedding for $5,000. I talked to a wedding consultent who quickly snapped me back to reality. Now the budget is $15-20k and it's mostly DIY shabby chic lol

@Amy I dreamed of getting married at the Chicago Botanic Garden too. That idea went down the drain pretty quickly.
