Your natural eyelashes or false eyelashes?

Hi everyone! Today is NATIONAL LASH DAY ( Really! Lol!) and I thought this would be an appropriate topic. My lashes are very short and pale, so I'm wearing false eyelashes, a tad on the dramatic side, for my big day in brown. What about you?

Real lashes. Mine are long and fuller (not as much as they were when I was younger, though, ha!), but sometimes I have an issue when putting on mascara where the lashes will stick together. I'm trying a new SNAP MASCARA that I'm hoping will help.

Whoa, yeah. That's scary right there! The technicians are supposed to do a spot test with the chemicals they are using before going onto the full treatment, waiting at least an hour for the reaction--ideally 24 hours. I messed up my hair awhile back, like 6 six years ago, with a bottle of shampoo-in red hair and then had to have head shots taken. I went to one of those Allure Magazine ranked coloring salons to get it "fixed." $400 poorer later fixing the aftermath of a $7 bottle of L'Oreal hair color just to get it to the original unapologetic black. My colorist said the salon swore by this imported organic all-natural Swedish hair dye that was "cutting edge," but the first day was spot testing for allergies and only the next day everything was done. She also said "don't go with the drug store brands, they use cheap metal dyes that get into your bloodstream"--eek! To be fair I have experimented with my hair in the past in junior high when I took a bottle of drugstore hydrogen peroxide to my hair out of curiosity, 3 days later, after going to Knots Berry Farm with a classmate, and hanging out in the full California sun, I was a born-again redhead! It was glorious for about 3 months until I became a slave keeping it from going lighter so I found a boxed color that worked to get me back in black while a grew it out and never again tried, until the above-mentioned incident. My parents are both in their 70s, and most of their hair is still that same stubborn black. Story of my hair: better black than anything else.

I tried the individual lash extensions about 2 months ago, I wanted to do a trial run. I have really short lashes so I wanted to try them. I'm really glad I did a trial run with them because I hated them. My eyes were so irritated (every time I blinked the end of the lash poked my eye) the next day that my mom had to help me get them off. We used everything from cold cream, to olive oil, to warm compresses to get them off. A bunch came off, but we still had to pull the rest off. Of course the place that I got them done wasn't open on a Sunday so they couldn't remove them, but I did text them to let them know. They gave me a lot of trouble trying to get my money back, but I was able to get the entire amount back. The thing that annoyed me most about the whole thing was that the lady that was putting them on commented that my eye lashes were very short. I probably shouldn't have even had these lashes put on, but she didn't say anything.

For my wedding I'll either go with a strip of the fake lashes or I'll use the great mascara that I have (its Younique brand and it has fibers in it to make your lashes look longer and fuller).

I LOVE this question because I am at a crossroads with what to do and love reading the responses of others. As you do, I have short and very blonde lashes that at the very least, need mascara on a daily basis. I LOVE false lashes BUT the last time I wore them, my eyes got all red and puffy after about 12 hours Smiley sad I am assuming that means I am allergic to something I just haven't wanted to experience it again so I haven't experimented with what the issue could be.

The SNAP works pretty good. Much better the first few days, now I think I'm just getting lazy, ha! But it comes off my face very gently , no tugging etc required. Makes me not hate the moment when removing my makeup for the day comes.

Goes on nicely. I prefer to scrap off any excess mascara from the stick before applying and it works good.

There was one thing I forgot to mention: lash tinting, it’s like mascara that lasts longer. I do it when I need to get pictures, but I do mine at home. Instead of regular hair dye, I buy small packages of black henna. I smear lotion around my eyes. I mix just enough henna in a small container and apply with an old mascara wand. The color takes longer to set but instead of weakening the lash when coloring the henna sinks into the cortex of the lash like it does with your hair and coats the outside. I try to keep it on for an hour, and when I’m done and I wipe everything off, my lashes look longer and fuller because they are darker. This costs me about $20 for the henna which lasts me through the year. When I do it, I do it every two weeks. You just got to remember to apply lotion on your top and bottom lids so you don’t get raccoon eyes.🐼

Oh Melissa! It sounds so uncomfortable!! I can feel what you went through. Mine are very short, too. My FH has gorgeous, long, curly lashes. *sigh* Lol! Fake lashes don't bother me and I forget I have them on. Thanks for the mascara name. I'll check it out.

Alyssa, I'm no expert, but I'd think your glue caused your issue. I'm not having a make-up trial, makes me nervous, because we are having a destination wedding and my make-up artist is over 6 hrs away. I do want to find out what glue she uses. I hope you find the perfect combo, and I'm sure you will. Need those beautiful eyes accentuated on your big day!! 💕

Soon2BMrsR, this may be a stupid question, but what happens if you get the henna in your eyes? Just For Readheads sells redhead henna. My lashes are so short, I dont think it'd make a dramatic difference on me. Ha! Ha! Thank for sharing!!!

I think I could have been allergic to the glue, which made my eyelids get swollen. That's probably why they were irritating my eyes so much. Before my mom helped me take them off she looked at them and commented that they were way too close to my eye.

Well, the stuff that I use calls for lemon juice to hydrate the henna. The acidity helps it bind better. I have gotten it into my eyes, it stings because of the lemon juice but you can wash it out like you do anything else. By itself it shouldn't be any more irritating than any other debris that can fall into your eyes. Like always, I'd do an allergy test. It's safer than the stuff you get at a beauty supply as it has way less chemicals. You may have reddish eyes for 4-5 hours, and then it will clump like it does when you get mascara in your eye. Just rinse it well and gently wipe away anything that ends up at the corners. The saline solution they make for contacts works well here. It should be gone by morning if did it before you went to bed and got some henna in your eyes. The only reason you'd have a complication is if you are allergic to it or you have super sensitive eyes. I use contacts. I take them out before I do this treatment. Just remember the lotion around your eyes so you don't look like a raccoon.

I love lashes and every time I have my makeup done I ask for them. My makeup artist is throwing them in free for all of us.
