Zika virus / honeymoon plans

Has the Zika virus messed up any of your honeymoon plans? I'm about to book my honeymoon and we want to go to Dominican Republic but the CDC had just added it to the list I'm thinking of switching places now because of it. Any ideas for an all inclusive resort with a casino?

My FH and I are constantly researching new honeymoon ideas. If you are looking for a relaxing spa like vacation my travel agent recommended Scottsdale, AZ. However I'm not sure if this is for us. We are also looking into Hawaii, Greece and Fiji. We are working with a $4,000 budget so I'm not sure if those areas will work for us. Any other ideas?

Peru is unaffected by Zika. I'm afraid of the roads there though. I've heard scary stories!

I've been keeping up with the CDC and they JUST came out with a new study..."Women who have Zika virus disease* should wait at least 8 weeks after symptom onset to attempt conception, and men with Zika virus disease should wait at least 6 months after symptom onset to attempt conception. Women and men with possible exposure to Zika virus but without clinical illness consistent with Zika virus disease should wait at least 8 weeks after exposure to attempt conception." http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/65/wr/mm6512e2er.htm?s_cid=mm6512e2er_e

Which begs the question, this is so new, how much more do they NOT know. and the ultimate (Selfish) question for me - where to honeymoon!?

I spoke with my OB/GYN and she told me if you travel to these places and become infected that a woman can TTC 8 weeks after symptoms, however for a man if infected it stays in their body for 6 months!

My fiance and I planned on honeymooning from FL to CA on a cruise with full transit through the Panama Canal. Every single port we would stop at is on the list as being an infected country. Now we are clueless as to where we want to go. We plan to TTC soon after our wedding so Zika countries are truly not an option.

    This stinks Smiley sad
