After the last toast has been made and confetti has been tossed, you may find yourself with a small case of the post-wedding blues. A good way to combat this is by taking the joy you felt on your wedding day and spreading it around by giving back to your community, especially during the holiday season.

Check out these ideas:

Donate Food and Flowers From Your Wedding
You’ll probably have a good amount of leftover food after your wedding. Instead of letting it go to waste, talk to your wedding vendors about the possibility of donating it to a food bank or shelter (the New England NACE Feeding Our Neighbors program has a list of Massachusetts-area caterers who will do this). You can also talk to your florist about the potential of donating floral arrangements to hospitals or other charities.

Include Volunteering in Your Honeymoon
Take some time out of your trip of a lifetime to give back. Research charitable organizations in your honeymoon destination (think: homeless shelters, soup kitchens, animal conservation centers), or tack on an extra day off from work to volunteer closer to home after you get back.

Find a Cause to Support Together
Now that you are married, find a charitable organization that is meaningful to you as a couple and plan on supporting it, financially, by donating items or volunteering there, going forward. This can be a cause that’s meaningful to you and your family, whether it be the animal shelter where you adopted your pet, a non-profit that benefits research to find a cure for a disease that’s affected your family, or a local soup kitchen where you can volunteer your time.

Reuse and Recycle
From centerpiece vessels to cupcake stands, candle holders and more, you’ve probably accumulated a lot of décor items during your wedding planning experience. Instead of tossing them when the day is over, try to find ways to reuse items throughout your home or donate them to worthy causes.

Pay It Forward
By writing honest reviews of your wedding vendors (on sites like WeddingWire, of course), you are helping future engaged couples plan their weddings. You’re also supporting your wedding vendors, many of whom are small businesses who will benefit greatly from your recommendations.
