Kim and Nha are high school sweethearts that grew up in Connecticut together. They spent their first date at a local mall sharing a Mango Snapple and are now planning a wedding this coming August. The happy couple opted for fall engagement photos and decided to make a day trip out of their session and travel to Brookline, Massachusetts. Filled with foliage and cutesy couple portraits, this shoot will have everyone wanting their own fall engagement photos in New England.

How He Popped the Question

“Nha got down on one knee in front of both our families in a traditional Vietnamese ceremony at my parents’ house,” says Kim.“ It wasn’t quite the storybook romance, but it meant so much to me that all our closest friends and family were there to see it happen, especially my grandparents. It was a totally planned event, because in Vietnamese culture marriage it is as much about the joining of two families as it is of two people in love. I knew everything that was going to happen—I helped plan it, and I STILL cried!”

Their Advice for a Perfect Proposal

“Let it be thoughtful, remember at the end of the day, it’s all about the feelings,” says Kim. “Be true to yourselves, and pay attention to detail. Even if it’s not an elaborate grand gesture, it will inevitably be an incredibly special moment if you’re thoughtful!”

How He Picked the Ring

The engagement ring features a stunning 1.1 carat round-cut diamond set in Ritani's Modern Bypass Diamond band. “I gave Nha no help other than to say I liked the round shape… (I don’t even think he knew what Pinterest was at that point in time.),” says Kim. “I would have loved whatever he chose, but it was icing on the cake that he chose so well on his own! I am still very much in love with it!!”

Why They Chose This Location for Their Engagement Photos

“Our engagement shoot took place at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, MA,” says Kim. “We’re from Connecticut but we offered to make a day of it and travel to where our photographer is currently based. I knew I wanted to shoot somewhere laid back and natural, to reflect our personalities. I also knew the foliage would be beautiful that time of year. We opted for fall engagement photos, and we got so lucky because we managed to get out to the park just before all the leaves and beautiful colors disappeared with winter’s arrival the week after.”

How They Picked Their Outfits

"When it came to outfits, we opted for a dressy, but more casual style, because that’s more reflective of who we are," says Kim."Choosing colors that fit in the same scheme but still stood out, was my main focus." says Kim.

Their Engagement Session Advice

“Wear something you’re comfortable in, pay attention to the colors of your environment, and have fun," says Kim. "It’s already not the most comfortable situation to PDA in front of a camera with a relative stranger, so having to fix your skirt or shirt every few seconds is a nice thing not to have to worry about. The colors of your outfits should complement one another but not exactly match.”

Let the Wedding Planning Begin!

“We are getting married this coming August 2017,” says Kim. “Our bridesmaids will be in a pink color (somewhere between blush and dusty rose), and our groomsmen in navy blue. The day will include a Vietnamese Ceremony between families, a Catholic Church ceremony at the church I grew up in, and the reception will be at a beautiful event space called The Riverview.”
