With a killer resume and amazing style, Cathy Anderson of Poor Little It Girl sits down with us to share some details about her intimate wedding, shopping for a petite wedding dress, and of course - the honeymoon!

Name: Cathy Anderson
Blog: Poor Little It Girl
Location: Atlanta, GA
Wedding Date: Fall 2017

WW: We are so excited for you to join us, Cathy! You got engaged a little over a year ago and are planning a more intimate approach towards your wedding day. Any tips on planning a smaller or nontraditional wedding?

CA: Big or small, I think it’s important to remember that you can’t do it all. I’ve hired a wedding coordinator, even though we’re eloping just the two of us, to help with all the details. I mean, I’ve never had a wedding before so there are things I don’t even know I need to think about that my coordinator has been very helpful with. I’m also keeping a lot of the real details of the event (location, exact date, etc.) private. I really don’t want to be too influenced by others around me and want to make this day just very personal and intimate for myself and Adam, my fiancé.

WW: As you still want to have a traditional wedding dress, flowers, etc. what is your advice on checking these tasks off of your list?

CA: I actually just purchased my dress last week. I did some research online and found two dresses I loved! I made an appointment, went in during the week (by myself) and tried them on and picked my favorite. I’m a pretty decisive person so the whole appointment lasted about 20 minutes, ha! The dress really does set the tone for so many aspects of our little ceremony. I wanted to make sure I picked the dress before I traveled to pick our location. Since it’s just the two of us, we have SO many options for where we can exchange vows!

WW: Have any wedding planning tools on WeddingWire been especially useful to you?

CA: Just because we’re eloping doesn’t mean it doesn’t cost a pretty penny! Love using the budget manager to keep our expenses in check. I also found our officiant on the site as well and he’s just lovely!

WW: PEOPLE Magazine named “Poor Little It Girl” as one of its “Most Stylish Blogs”—how will your sense of style be incorporated into your wedding day?

CA: My styled on my blog has always been feminine and classic. My wedding dress is certainly like that, and even our florals are classic. Nothing too trendy, but really simple but elevated.

WW: Any suggestions for petite women searching for their perfect wedding dress?

CA: Every wedding dress you try on when you’re petite is more than likely going to be WAY too long. Even if you bring heels. So just keep that in mind and let the bridal specialist do their best to clip you into their samples so you can get the best idea of what the dress will look like in your size. Then of course, find a great tailor!

WW: Let’s talk honeymoon! You’ve mentioned on your blog that you hope to plan a long European vacation, any specific destinations in mind?

CA: Adam and I are doing things a bit differently. I’m planning/paying for the wedding, he’s planning/paying for the honeymoon. Adam is very thoughtful in his research and we haven’t decided on a location just yet (I said I’d go just about anywhere!), but I think we’re leaning towards France, Italy or Spain!

WW: In terms of packing for a longer honeymoon, do you have any tips on what types of items to pack? Is there a particular item you can’t travel without?

CA: To be honest, I’m a terrible packer! I always overpack and bring way too many shoes. But I’m going to work hard on our honeymoon list since we’ll have to lug it to a few different cities. It’ll be chilly when we travel, so I think packing layers you can mix and match, plus a couple neutral coats that can be worn with anything is essential. And what can I not travel without? Oh gosh, my eye mask! I am a great plane-sleeper and with that long of a flight, my eye mask really puts me in the zone!
