14 Aug, 2021The story of our wedding
What a whirlwind to finally get to our big day. Our original wedding date was 3/28/20. We were at the end of planning, finalizing details, sending final checks. Then, we all know what happened.
Being one of the early adopters of COVID wedding planning, I came to the Wedding Wire forums to consult with the other couples dealing with the same thing. There was no protocols at this point. There was no recommendations or suggestions. Just sheer panic. I told myself we would be okay for our 3/28 date but the closer we got, the more shut downs and restrictions were in place.
Finally, we knew we had to postpone. We didn't want to delay our marriage, so we eloped with immediate family and a friend of ours who got officiated the night before. For our big wedding, we chose 3/27/21 - a full year away with PLENTY of time for COVID to dissipate...right? We couldn't have been more wrong. We ended up postponing our wedding a second time to 8/14/21. Thankfully our vendors, family and friends were all extremely understanding and patient.
Continue reading »Fast forward to August of 2021. The Delta variant is more and more prevalent. The weather in Savannah, GA is HOT and unpredictable. We have some last minute dropouts and flight scares. The hotel tells us they are under construction. Needless to say, I was not feeling optimistic.
We finally make it to 8/14/21 - the big day! We have plans to renew our vows in front of our loved ones (I mean I needed people to see me walk down the aisle in that dress, am I right?) and then ensue in lots of eating and drinking and dancing afterwards. Despite my fears and doubts, it undeniably turned out to be the most perfect day. The weather was mild for August in Savannah with just the right amount of cloud coverage. A storm made it's way to Savannah right at the time of the outdoor ceremony and simply took a different trajectory around us. A groomsmen forgot his pants found almost the exact same pair at a store nearby. A bridesmaid who's zipper broke magically was able to zipper it.
While these things were happening, my husband and I chose to laugh through it and hope for the best because at the end of the day, we were so grateful to finally be celebrating with all of our loved ones. Thankfully we had that mindset, because everything turned out more than perfect and we had the time of our lives. Our vendors were AMAZING and all came together to solve all of the problems we faced while making our day so beautiful and special. I swear my wedding planner had 8 arms and the ability to teleport. Essentially, I have never been more blessed by a group of strangers in my life.
Needless to say, there were times where we thought, "we should just cancel this party, we're already married and happy." I am so glad we didn't and that we have these memories for the rest of our lives.
