25 May, 2019The story of our wedding
Brad and I met in April 2017, and like so many couples today, we met on Match.com. We got engaged on February 1, 2019, and couldn't wait to be married so we picked May 25, 2019, as our wedding date! Brad proposed at home, in our kitchen, which was just perfect for us. After calling all of our family, we had a celebratory dinner at our favorite restaurant in Dallas.
Our original plan was to have a very small and intimate wedding in May and then host a larger wedding reception in August. At the time, Brad's sister lived on almost two acres of property, so we decided to have our wedding at her home, with the larger party in August at a venue in Dallas. As soon as we were engaged, I started planning and it came together very quickly. I already had a good idea of what I wanted and after spending a few hours on WeddingWire, I had identified my wedding coordinator, band, florist, caterer, bakery, rental company, and transporation. I found my photographer through a friend and my invitations on Minted.

Three weeks before our wedding, we made the decision to move the wedding from my future sister-in-law's home to a traditional wedding venue because her yard washed away! This was the only time we panicked during our wedding planning. My wedding coordinator was amazing and helped us identify available places and set up tours for us. The Establishment Barn was one venue I was really excited to visit and it didn't disappoint! Brad and I visited five venues across Dallas and Fort Worth and The Establishment Barn was the last venue. The day I went to visit, it was raining sideways! Sara, the owner, met me at the venue in the pouring rain. She gave me a tour and I knew this was our venue. It was absolutely perfect. We had three areas where we could get married, depending on the weather; inside if it was raining; outside on gravel, overlooking the pond if the ground was wet but not raining; and in the back, on the grass overlooking a beautiful wooded area, if the ground was dry. The main reception area is very large, but the way we set up the tables, it didn't feel too big for our 30 person wedding.
The week of our wedding was beautiful and on our wedding day, the sun shone brightly. We hosted an "I Do BBQ" at our home for our wedding guests. I think having everyone meet the day prior helped build everyone's excitement for us. Many of our guests traveled from out-of-town so it was so nice to get to spend more time with friends and family.
On the day of our wedding, Sara texted me, congratulating me and reassuring me she and my coodinator had everything handled.
Our band, String & Sound, was amazing and they kept everyone dancing and having a great time. We decided on a duo because we wanted live music but didn't feel a full band was the right fit for a small wedding. The two musicians were wonderful. They sang live and used track music, which really helped set the mood for each part of the wedding and reception. The food, catered by Vestal's Catering, was delicious and our bartender was so personable and fun! Our photographer, Daylilies Photography, captured so many moments that I didn't even realize were happening because I was having so much fun. All of our guests commented on how much fun they had at our wedding, many claiming it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
Every part of our wedding was perfect, and looking back almost 10 months later, we still wouldn't change a thing. I have so many "favorite" moments of our wedding - from seeing the look on my Dad's face when he saw me in my dress for the first time, from seeing Brad waiting for me at the end of the aisle, to saying "I do", to walking into the venue and having our first dance together to "At Last" by Etta James, to dancing the night away with my friends. Our sprkler send off was so fun, but I didn't want the night to end.
Our wedding was a very special day to the both of us. It's a day that we won't ever forget and The Establishment Barn helped make our day perfect.
