20 Sep, 2019The story of our wedding
It all started back in 1997, 7th grade science class. Brandon was sitting in the front of the class while I was sitting towards the back. One day, he worked up the courage to have one of his friends ask me if I thought he was cute. I said yes and agreed to talk to him after class. The bell rang and Brandon quickly shuffled out of the room, leaving me thoroughly confused. We eventually did talk and became an item all the way through freshman year of high school. Sadly, Brandon moved away in 2001 and we both went our separate ways in life.
Fast-forward 14 years, I'm living in Chicago and Brandon reaches out to me through Facebook, because he'll be in town for a wedding and wants to catch up on old times. He learns that I'm newly single, as was he. We meet and immediately connect again, like no time had passed at all. The connection is so strong that he decides to move back to Chicago! He proposed to me two years later as we were walking downtown, and surprised me with our family popping out of the bushes after I said yes.

The Blackstone Hotel on Michigan Ave was exactly what we were looking for. The venue has amazing historic details but it's been updated to look extremely chic. It's also right across the street from Grant Park, where we were able to get some wonderful pictures around the gardens, pathways, and bridges.
Unexpectedly, one of my favorite parts of the day was the ceremony. I was so nervous and just wanted it to be done with so we could enjoy ourselves! Our officiant was Brandon's brother, who was also apparently so nervous that he forgot to have us exchange our rings before we kissed. It ended up being a very funny moment and a great memory that was captured in the photos. We also incorperated some cultural traditions in the ceremony; I'm Mexican and he is Jewish. I've very proud of our diverse family and it was nice to display that.
