18 May, 2019The story of our wedding
I am SO PROUD of how our DIY wedding came together, I just have to brag about it. It was the most perfect, personalized party I've ever attended. From the flowers to the cakes to the decor to the playlist, everything was designed and hand-made and I absolutely love how it all came out. The best part was, I really love crafts and planned a year in advance, so it wasn't even stressful! On top of that, I had a top-notch team of vendors whom I also knew personally: Brennan's Catering, Karli Cadel Photography, Kelly's Package Store for the bar, and of course Jacob's Pilow Dance Festival for the venue. I also got rentals from Paul Redecker, and the dress from Bella Sera Bridal. I got so many compliments from my guests about every last detail, and I would recommend them all 100x over.
The theme of our wedding was travel, and each table was decorated to represent a place the two of us had been together. I made paper flowers and confetti out of vintage maps, and the escort cards were little luggage tags with everyone's destination. The guest book was a map poster from Etsy for everyone to sign. Even the hand-stamped invitations and envelope linings were made out of vintage maps.

Each table had to "roll for initiative" to determine the order they would all go up to the buffet, and insetad of letting people clink their glasses to make us kiss, they had to roll a 10 or higher! If they got a 20, we did an epic kiss, if they rolled a 1, THEY had to go kiss someone! It was a huge hit, and people were playing the game all night long.
I had family and friends donate lilacs that week, and made my own bouquets, boutennieres, and centerpieces using flowers from my garden. I baked four different cakes, with toppers that my dad made at the machine shop where he worked by carving silhuettes out of wood on from real photos of my husband and I doing Tough Mudder together. My dad also cut the wooden stumps that we used as cake stands.
My brother had some experience DJing in college, so he just guided us through a playlist that my husband and I curated carefully over many long car rides. The venue provided us with all the sound system and lighting we could ever have wanted, included in the price! We were also allowed a gold cart to help poeple navigate the grounds, and a firepit outside the reception where people had an excellent time catching up between dances. People danced and partied until we kicked them out, and then we went on to have an amazing after-party in the on-site cabins where we and many of our guests were able to stay. That meant nobody had to drive that night, and we could all wake up and have breakfast together before parting ways. My heart was so full from beginning to end. It was honestly a dream come true, and I couldn't pick a favorite moment if I tried.
