30 Oct, 2021The story of our wedding
Ellen and Dan wed at the Art Factory in Paterson, NJ, as they immediately fell in love with industrial space and knew it would be the perfect location to bring their rock and roll wedding dreams to life. The wedding was inspired by the couple's shared love of music and going to concerts together. Art Factory provided a blank canvas for creating a party…with a little wedding mixed in.
The couple created a day filled with personal touches, as they wanted a day that reflected them. With the bride’s sister-in-law officiating, she was able to incorporate lyrics from the couple’s favorite musical artists in the ceremony, including some Elvis lyrics to honor Dan’s late mother and aunt. Every piece of music utilized during the ceremony had significance to the couple as the bridal party walked out to an instrumental version of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” which was one of the first concerts the couple attended together and Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” played for the bride’s entrance as nod to the groom’s late mother and aunt. The couple chose to use sustainable wood flowers painted shades of rust and cinnamon rose coupled with greenery and neutrals.

Guests were greeted by a photo of the bride and groom at one of their favorite music venues during their engagement photo shoot. In lieu of table numbers, each table was marked with a miniature version of a poster from concerts they had attended together, atop old 45 records The sweetheart table was marked with a custom sign reading “Main Stage” and cardboard cutouts of the couple’s two cats. The buffet style menu featured stations influenced by locations important to the couple, including Chicago style pizza from where they got engaged to grill cheeses, which they ate on their first date in New Jersey. A caricature artist was hired inspired by a drawing they had done attending a Baltimore Orioles game. For dessert, cookie cake, gourmet donuts, candied apples and brownies made by the bride’s mother were served. As a nod to the couple’s love of pop culture, custom Funko Pops made to look like the bride and groom adorned one of the cookie cakes. The couple also hired their hometown coffee shop to serve coffee, hot chocolate and cider.
As a surprise for Dan, Ellen hired an Elvis impersonator to perform during the reception…it wouldn’t have been a rock and roll wedding without The King! Not to be outdone, the groom worked with a close friend to write an original song for the bride, which included references to their very different tastes in music, cats and a running inside joke about “who kissed who” during their first date.
