16 Sep, 2022The story of our wedding
My name is Victoria Piekut Bobak and I recently got married! I am the CEO/Co-Founder of my women's fashion company Wight Elephant Boutique and a former Miss Pennsylvania USA for the year 2020, having competed live on FYI for the Miss USA 2020 title. My now husband (Jacob Bobak) and I have been together for 8.5 years and officially married September 16th, 2022, and would be honored to have our wedding featured by Wedding Wire.Jacob and I met in seventh grade before all of the glitz, glam, and notoriety of the pageant world. He knew me when I was a shy, awkward tween and was too shy himself to get to know me. It took another seven years, right after high school graduation, before we would start to date and would never look back. Since then, Jacob has been by my side through it all. He would be the first one to ask me what I need and figure out what would make me feel better when battling my health struggles (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and Ehler's Danlos Syndrome). The first to tell me that he believed in me when I wanted to start my own women's fashion business (and then be coerced into learning how to work a professional camera to become the official Wight Elephant Boutique photographer). He’s been to every single pageant competition and believed I would/should win every single one, even when I didn’t. He’s my biggest supporter in life, he keeps me grounded, he makes me laugh until my stomach hurts, and he makes me feel the most loved I’ve ever felt. He was there in the first few rows cheering me on at Miss USA and asked me to be his wife as soon as we got home from the competition! The feel of our black tie affair was classic, romantic elegance. We wanted to highlight the past of our beloved city with notable Pittsburgh landmarks, while bringing them into our modern vision. We had our ceremony in the outdoor garden at the historic Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, with our reception at the equally historic Mansions on Fifth. As a former Miss Pennsylvania USA and a Pittsburgh business owner, it was important to me to work with as many small/local businesses and creatives as possible for our wedding. Creative Design: Novalee Events We had so many details that made our day truly magical! As a fashion boutique owner, I was so excited to show off my three different wedding looks for the day (ceremony dress & reception dress from Bridal Beginning, and a sparkler exit outfit gifted from Nadine Merabi). We shared a first look in the beautiful garden of a neighboring historic Pittsburgh mansion, where I shared a letter with Jacob that I started writing to him in 2016. We took post-ceremony portraits at the notable walled garden at Mellon Park. Our ceremony was filled with beautiful music by Innocenti Strings, Mel's Boutique created an absolutely stunning floral arch for us to stand under, and our ceremony ended with a flower petal toss by our guests. I was also thrilled to have some of my closest pageant friends in my bridal party: Julia Van Steenberghe (Miss ME USA 2020), Tiffany Setiz (Miss Pennsylvania America 2020 & 2019), & Taylor Jones (1st Runner Up to Miss AL USA 2019 & 2018). We had a traditional Pittsburgh Cookie Table with more cookies than we could ever count! And custom his/her mockatils with names reflecting our wedding and honeymoon. We ended the night with two of our all-time favorite snacks: donuts from Oakmont Bakery and soft pretzels from the Southside Pretzel Shop.
I have a few standout moments from the day that are some of my favorites! One definitely being when I revealed my second gown to Jacob. I had teased him before the wedding and told him that my reception dress came with a joke. The dress had a big bow on the back to play on my new last name being Bobak (pronounced "bow-back"). When I showed him, he fell to the floor laughing and gave me the biggest hug! It was so funny and special.
I also loved our sparkler exit at the end of the night. While everyone was lining up outside, we had a private last dance as the only two left in the building. It was so emotional and a moment that truly hit me that we were finally husband and wife! After lots of happy tears, we ran outside with all of our loved ones cheering us on with their sparklers! It was a moment I will never forget.
